Christmas Controversy & Opinion Visit Defend Christmas.com Presented by Defend Christmas, this forum covers the difficult topics of the season -- from the famed and fabled War on Christmas to church and state debates to using the star or the angel on the Christmas tree. Modern Christmas celebration has it's complications -- schools are divided, some Christmas light displays are too much, some even argue that it is better to call it a "holiday" tree. Some merchants won't even say "Merry Christmas"! Where there is controversy, there is insanity. Even in Christmas.

Kentucky Won’t Call it a Christmas Tree

The state of Kentucky raised eyebrows through a letter sent from the governor indicating this year’s Christmas tree will, in fact, be called a holiday tree. The letter immediately drew the ire of local Christian leaders. Beshear administration spokeswoman Cindy Lanham says the holiday tree reference is meant to be inclusive of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah [...]

(who really are these people behind closed doors that make these insane policies?)

I would never ask for someone to please remove their headscarf, or to eat during their fast because it makes me feel uncomfortable, or to please water down their beliefs and 'lets just call it an candelabra' (menorah)...

I hope we are a tolerant society, and I pray there is room for all.
I have a very difficult time understanding why it is be okay to water down my beliefs?! If you do not want a Christmas tree, fine - just do not call it something else! You do it 100% or not at all.

I mean do they really think people don't know what it is. I am sure that everyone knows it is a christmas tree so why not call it that.

Why is Christmas the only holiday that some people insist on changing? We do not insist on changing names and meanings of other holidays, why this one?
