My Merry Christmas Announcement

Christmas Controversy & Opinion Visit Defend Christmas.com Presented by Defend Christmas, this forum covers the difficult topics of the season -- from the famed and fabled War on Christmas to church and state debates to using the star or the angel on the Christmas tree. Modern Christmas celebration has it's complications -- schools are divided, some Christmas light displays are too much, some even argue that it is better to call it a "holiday" tree. Some merchants won't even say "Merry Christmas"! Where there is controversy, there is insanity. Even in Christmas.

Public Outcry Intensifies in Washington State Over Nativity Ban

A heated debate took place at the state Capitol on Tuesday, but no lawmakers were involved. The debate was based on what can and cannot be displayed during the holiday season. Last season a nativity scene displayed inside the Capitol sparked the addition of an atheist sign, which, in turn, sparked a big protest. This [...]

Why Christmas? Why is this the only holiday that some insist on changing? What about Valentines day, after all, not everyone has someone to love. Mothers day and fathers day should go too, not everyone has parents after all. Then there is Hanukkah, not everyone is Jewish. Ramada is another big one, last I looked not everyone fasted during this holiday. Why is no one insisting that these holidays be banned or thier names changed to something else or stop them from celebrating what they believe in?

Christmasster, your first sentence contains the answer in my opinion. Because it celebrates "Christ". Perhaps besides being vocal, we who celebrate "CHRISTmas" need to fast and pray to bring about that desired effect. We know he listens! Wise men still seek him.

What can one say to this, as a Country founded on letting us all believe what we so desire to we need to be open to all, but I often find she (or he) who cries loudest gets to be heard. May those who believe ans pray that we are heard, again I am not saying turn the other cheek, but I think taking the "higher" road and going about it without angry words gets your point across much better than ugly signs and angry words. After all this is the season of peace.

As for why Christmas and not the other Holidays you named, Mothers, Fathers, and Valentines Days are not religious Holidays. Then the religious Holidays you named are not everywhere like Christmas is.

If people hadn't freaked out so much about the Athiest sign and go crazy They could have still had the Nativity this year. In a Country where their is Freedom of Religion you can not have Goverment sites allow one Religion and not an other.

Whith that being said I always thought it was stupid and petty that people freak out about the nativity in public places. I live in MI. and my city puts out a Nativity every year. No big deal.
