Why?

I love my dad Lord knows I do but he is getting on my last nerve! This man is 78 years old but he still tries to do things like he's still in his 20's, 30's or even 40's. My mom and I have been trying to get him to finish all of the home improvements projects he's started and never finished since the beginning of the year, but he won't listen. And now that its the holidays we can't really decorate like we want to because he likes to start new projects when he's not done w/old ones. I thank God everyday that I have a father who in his older age is still able to do for self but I want to tell him to go sit down somewhere so bad. I want my house back. Everytime we think we have a handle on things here he comes w/a new project its urking the crap out of me! Guys how can I get my dad to chill out and be a senior citizen?

When you figure out how elderly parents tick, let me know, and we can work on my mom too! (she will be 79 in January)

Thanks to advances in medical science, the average life span of Americans has gone from 58 to about 78... I say let him go... he's earned the right to be feisty and you're blessed to still have him around...

However, since you can't curb his enthusiasm, channel it... YOU pick the project and set him loose on it... then, when he doesn't finish it, you can start "irking the crap" out of him... "Dad, did you fix that broken screen yet?" "Dad, how's that garage clean up coming along? Do you need any help?"

He's just trying to keep busy and contribute in his own way...

As long as he's not injuring himself working on the project I'd leave him alone. I do understand about having projects 1/2 done....I'm married to the same type of person!
