Christmas On The Radio

For the first time since 1996, Wyatt Cox was not contemplating another go at his annual “Christmas On The Radio” syndicated program. Indeed, when I checked his web site at various times for inclusion in this thread, it had not been updated with any 2009 content.

Well, according to a radio blog to which I subscribe, Cox is back! When quizzed about the show from several folks, Cox relented and went into the studio for another syndicated version of the show.

“Christmas On The Radio” is twenty-four hours worth of Old Time Radio. Stations may air the show as a whole or broken down into one hour segments mixed in with other programming.

Though the site still doesn’t appear to be updated, here is the page which also contains samples! - http://www.christmasontheradio.com/

A station list is included but, again, I don’t know how accurate the information is.

Here's a link to KNCT 91.3, Simply Beautiful from Killen, TX.

They just started round the clock Christmas music. This is good quiet time music, lots of instrumentals, orchestral, Percy Faith, Bing, etc. Not Top 40 Pop.
There's an online link on the site:

My 2009 Christmas Radio Listening/Recording Schedule

I certainly hope that readers of this thread are taking advantage of the unique Christmas programming offered by public radio. Indeed, many stations, including my local Alabama Public Radio station, are already underway with special seasonal sounds! Consult your schedule today and don’t miss out on some great choral, orchestration, etc. programs!

As we head into the weekend, now is the time develop our listening/recording schedules!

Generally, the weekend before Christmas is when locally produced public radio shows will contribute their Christmas offerings. Again, consult and share your local schedules, especially if an online listen link is available. The national shows get all the attention, but local shows often go unnoticed except by local fans.

For this weekend (December 18, 2009) and the week leading to and including Christmas Day, here are my personal recommendations. Online listen links are included where possible.

WWOZ in New Orleans (baby!) features almost all locally produced programming ! You can’t go wrong with any of their shows this Christmas Season! - http://www.wwoz.org/programs/schedule

Pretty much the same with KUT in Austin, Texas. Several good locally produced shows that are/will feature Christmas content. - http://kut.org/about/schedule

Friday, December 18, 2009

8:00 to 10:00 p.m. CT – Alabama Public Radio – “All Things Acoustic” Christmas Show - http://www.allthingsacoustic.org/

Saturday, December 19, 2009

12:00 Midnight to 5:00 a.m. CT – “Blues With The Midnight Creeper” – WWOZ New Orleans - http://www.wwoz.org/programs/schedule

7:00 to 9:00 p.m. CT – Alabama Public Radio – “Bama Bluegrass” – Christmas Show - http://www.apr.org/bluegrass.html

Sunday, December 20, 2009

12:00 Midnight to 5:00 a.m. CT – “Blues Before Sunrise” annual Christmas Show – Several stations, many with online listen links - http://www.publicradiofan.com/cgibin...?programid=170

7:00 to 11:00 p.m. ET – “The Bone Conduction Music Show Christmas Extravaganza” (baby!) – WAAM, Ann Arbor, Michigan - http://www.waamannarbor.com/ or http://thayrone.com/WEBCASTNOW/

7:00 to 9:00 p.m. CT. – Alabama Public Radio – “Crooners Christmas” - http://www.apr.org/
9:00 to 11:00 p.m. CT – Alabama Public Radio – “Jugs, Jukes & Jazz” - http://www.apr.org/

Monday, December 21, 2009

8:00 p.m. to 12:00 Midnight CT – KUT Austin, TX – “Blue Monday” - http://kut.org/about/schedule

Wednesday, December 24, 2009

12:00 Midnight ET – 24 Hours! – WXPN, Philadelphia, PA - “The Night Before on XPN” with Robert Drake - http://www.xpn.org/ (although I’ve found very little info about this year’s show – rjd)

6:00 p.m. ET – 24 Hours! – WPRB Princeton, NJ – Jon Solomon’s Christmas Marathon show - http://www.wprb.com/ (More information in post before this one.)

That’s pretty much my 2009 Schedule (or the highlights thereof). I would love to learn about yours, although I’m the only one that I know of with a regular radio schedule (I don’t watch much TV).

The Bone Conduction Music Show Christmas Extravaganza (baby)!

A reminder from Thayrone X:

It happens once a year. It's a birthday party. It's THE BONE CONDUCTION MUSIC SHOW CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA! Don't miss it, fool. Sunday, 7pm...you ain't NEVER heard Christmas music like this before. Featuring the ghost of Bob Hope, Ann Margaret, Duane Hickman and The Bone Conduction Music Show dancers. And that hot chick the color of mocha latte from Bay Watch, can't remember her name right now. And make sure you stick it in your iPod. It's even better in July poolside. I ain't lyin', if I'm lyin' I'm flyin'. And I ain't flyin'. This coming Sunday 12/20, knock a Christmas hole in it. Book mark it, write it on the wall: www.thayrone.com Be there!

Happy Birthday Jesus!!! And thank you for all that you do,

Knucklehead Smith
