Christmas Controversy & Opinion Visit Defend Christmas.com Presented by Defend Christmas, this forum covers the difficult topics of the season -- from the famed and fabled War on Christmas to church and state debates to using the star or the angel on the Christmas tree. Modern Christmas celebration has it's complications -- schools are divided, some Christmas light displays are too much, some even argue that it is better to call it a "holiday" tree. Some merchants won't even say "Merry Christmas"! Where there is controversy, there is insanity. Even in Christmas.

BUT!--Like it was said earlier, for every tree cut down, plant more! As long as they keep replenshing from where they took I think it would be alright.

Here is an idea for everyone complaining about the tree: Stop sending me junk mail every single day. Flyers, catalogs, newspapers I didn't ask for, coupons I don't use, mailers from local businesses---I use NONE of it and ask for none of it--do you know how many trees were cut down because of that?

Leave Christmas alone.
I so agree. I hate junk mail....just a waste.....Maybe we can mail them most of our junk mail and tell them instead of of worrying about THE NYC Christmas Tree maybe they aught to go after the companies that kill trees to fill our mailboxes with junk!!!

While we are at it, No more turkeys on Thanksgiving, too much smoke from the fireworks on July 4th, no more killing of innocent pumpkins for Halloween.
Give me a break just another way to get that group some free press. I look forward to seeing that tree on TV every year, I look forward to the day when I can take my sons to see it in person, I have always wanted to go.

What's really sad about this is that twenty years ago, 98% of us would laughed the idea off as ludicrous. Now, they are actually getting people to consider it as plausable. Ten more years from now they will probably get their wish. In the meantime, China continues to pour more air & water polution just from their factories in one month than the US produces in one year. Priorities folks.

Agreed. It seems in this day and age everyone is allowed to go after everyone.

Being PC, enviromentally concious and conforming somewhat to the times are one thing--but it has a way of spinning out of control.

I'm in my early 30's and what I've noticed from being a kid till about now is it seems more and more people who respect tradition i.e. things like Christmas are almost fair game. Somehow inside of 20 years we became the butt of jokes, looked at as being "ridiculous" for our faith and celebration and what's more it just seems like we have become "bad guys".

I don't push my views or tradition on anyone else, it you aren't into it? Fine--If you are? You are more than welcome to join the celebration.

I just want to know how you can possibly have that much time on your hands to attack a Christmas tree in NYC.

Like I said--I don't push my views or traditions on anyone, we plant new trees after we cut one down--why is it fashionable to attack Christmas or its traditions? There are places around the world where if you attempted such a thing you could be stoned!--I'm not trying to rock the boat but I think it may be time for the people on our side of the fence to say "hey--go take a hike."

There are a MILLION other things happening in the world that can be addressed and you chose this. It's actually funny.
