GPS Question

Hubby wants a GPS so I was thinking about getting him one for Christmas. I am not sure which brand is better... the 2 brands I see alot in the stores are TomTom and Garmin. Anyone have either brand and if so what do and don't you like about it. Thanks!!!!

I have a Garmin Nuvi and I love it. I have had it for a couple of years now and back when I was traveling alot it was indispensable. It was especially valuable to me when I would travel for business to somewhere I had been before but didn't really know well. I'd just pop it in my rental car, put in the address to the hotel and I was good to go. When I wanted food, I put in the kind of restaurant I wanted (Mexican, American, Chinese, Italian, etc) and it showed me everything nearby. What a miracle device.

One word of caution -- no matter which one you buy, keep the maps and data updated. I've had many times where I've been shown a destination on the device but when I got there it no longer existed (out of business). It happened alot on my trip to DC this summer. I learned I hadn't updated the maps in a while and had to take care of that.

Jeff

I have a Garmin Nuvi and a Tom Tom (they were gifts), and I much prefer the Nuvi. It gives the directions in a more timely manner. Sometimes the Tom Tom would tell me to turn or take an exit after I was already past it, and honestly it wasn't my driving speed; I drive like an old lady.

I agree that the Garmin is the way to go. I had a Tom Tom and it died and always sent me down roads that had been rerouted or closed no matter how often I kept updating it.

If ever there is a time to buy a GPS, it is in the next couple of weeks. You will see some Black Friday deals and I suggest you do a little homework online to explore what kind of features you want for this thing. They run from about $35 to $200. Keep an eye on this page for the Black Friday deals. Unlike computers, TVs, iPads and the in-demand video games of the season, your chances of finding the GPS you want at a deal are VERY GOOD.

Thanks Jeff...

A lot of BF ads have leaked already and I did noticed some garmins on them. I will research them on line and compare them to see which one I will try to get.
