From the Buble info -

"Meanwhile, Michael Buble is working on a new Christmas record, with David Foster and others. Buble hopes to turn in a very traditional (in his words, "authentic") holiday album in a similar vein to Bing Crosby's "White Christmas". "I want people to grow up listening to this record just like I grew up listening to Bing," Buble says, adding that there are no original songs on the album."

I'll look forward to that one.

IMHO if Buble wants his Christmas record to become a classic, he should include some original tunes. I think artists tend to want to remain on the safe side when recording Christmas tunes by sticking with the tried and true. That to me is a mistake. A heartfelt rendition of an original tune beats a lackluster remake any day!

From the way Stubby wrote that piece I think he feels the same.

I agree with Radio and with Judesmama...both of You.....whatever he does it will be great...but to become he will have to hammer out an awesome Christmas single....best not a remake and a few other new christmas songs...coupled with some classics...I would love that

I would agree as long as he can find a song strong enough to become a standard. But that can be hard to do, especially if he's working inside a deadline. I'd rather have 12 strong standard classics by Buble than a couple of originals that aren't that strong just for the sake of having some originals on there. With David Foster working on the CD, I think they'll accomplish the mission.

I recall how disappointed I was in Josh Groban's Christmas offering a few years back. It too was filled with standards. But he's such an egotistical artist -- much like Celine Dion -- who so likes to hear himself sing that you can't get past the arrangements that showcase "the voice" that it ruins things.

Then, when you turn to something he did such as "Believe" for Polar Express you feel he's made a contribution to holiday music.

That's what I fear for Buble.

He's not got the ego thing going like Groban but some of his traditional Christmas fare so far has been passe -- like he's channeling Frank more than just being Buble.

So cast my vote for a little originality.

I, for one, would like to see an artist brave enough to tackle Christmas themes with an all original album.

Never going to happen though.
