Where I live in New Jersey, Irene began with rain at about two yesterday afternoon. I watched the Weather Channel intently and got more and more concerned as the day went on. My wife and I slept in our den on the bottom floor to be far from any trees that might fall during the night...We even prepared with packed bags, medicens for both human and feline members of the family and electronic items that would do no good if power was out but somehow made us more comfortable...Irene kissed us good morning, yanked a few already dead limbs out of our trees, dropped about eight inches of rain, and has now seemingly moved on leaving a windy afternoon and leaves and sticks galore...All of our preparations were for naught as the power went off for about five minutes early this morning, and that was it. I've been watching the rest of the storms path and we seemingly got off very easy...My thoughts and prayers are with those who were not so fortuneate!

Jay

Similar to JayIsh, here in Massachusetts. The worst of the rain is over, but the wind is supposed to stick around until this evening. LOTS of twigs, leaves, and small branches everywhere. We haven't lost power yet, but I guess it could still happen. If it does, we're prepared for it.

Irene came through, she didn't do much damage to my street, neighbor's large tree uprooted and took out part of their fence, and lots of branches down. Power did go out for an hour around 2:30 but is back now. Others in town have street flooding, and there was worry of mudslides in the areas where the tornado took out thousands of trees. Our biggest issue is a flooded basement. Could have been worse.
