Say it isn't so! Chocolate shortage to come?

I ran across a chilling article this morning. It says that chocolate consumption worldwide is rapidly outpacing chocolate production. Here's the quote that gave me the shivers:

"In 20 years chocolate will be like caviar,” John Mason, executive director of the Nature Conservation Research Council, told the Independent. “It will become so rare and so expensive that the average Joe just won't be able to afford it."

The entire article is here: The Death of Chocolate?

This has been a LONG time coming and shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. Chocolate isn't actually in short supply -- it suffers from incredible demand and that, coupled with bigger issues in the supply of sugar, is going to make it very costly. What was once a cheap luxury will now become simply a luxury.

Well, when the world is depressed as it is, we only have chocolate to turn to, so I'm not too surprised.

That is a tragedy!

I guess it doesn't matter much for me because I had to pretty much gave up chocolate since I gave up caffeine a year ago, which is in chocolate. I use to eat chocolate ALL THE TIME but now I rarely, if ever eat it. That has been real tough giving up but since it might be going up in price maybe it's a good thing!

That's bad news for those who love it and eat it! =(
