Isn't that what they did in the movie 'Mame', starring Lucille Ball, co-starring Bea Arthur, there is this scene when the depression hits, and Mame and others decide to put up the decorations while singing that famous song; 'For We Need a Little Christmas' ....right this very minute......la......la.....la........you know the rest, carols by the spinet....or something of that nature......ok......I know......I'm not perfect....so sue me!

First sign for me is of course the Holiday Ornaments book from Hallmark then it's the Yankee Candle store with the Christmas scents then finally Kmart, Wal-Mart & Target slowly stocking up on Christmas goods.

Hit the Target this weekend and they had a BUNCH of Christmas lights out...plus lawn decorations (like the lighted deer and whatnot). When I start seeing that kind of thing creeping into the stores it definitely starts seeming like Christmas to me.

I've not seen that film, but it sounds rather festive from your description.

I would have to say when my family and I went camping over the summer near West Yellowstone. The shops we went into had signs of Christmas throughout.

I'd say the first signs I see of Christmas are the 24 hours of Christmas marathons that QVC and HSN have on starting in september. Then it's the Christmas decorations at Walmart/Kmart.

Anyone's Walmart have Christmas decorations up already? Mine does.

Well, downtown Christmas Street is now open on the lower level of the Bay Department Store and the Shopping channel has their trees up, thats my sign!!!!

It made me go out and buy some holiday scented oil fragrances from Bath & Body Works today

The 107th Santa Claus Parade on the 20th, is just over a month away now, too!!! And just 2 and a half weeks left until the decorations go up, I can't believe its here again already!!!!!

I try to keep Christmas alive all year long but I think my first sign is when other people catch up and start thinking the same way. I feel it the most a few days after Halloween. Our whole street decorates there houses and the light lookers start coming at night and that's when I know the most that Christmas is on its way.

I was at Target today and they had Christmas DVDs out. I got Home Alone (which has A TON of features) and Miracle on 34th Street (original--but DVD comes w/ color AND B/W). They also had nutcrackers in the home section.
