Bells The Merry News -- Official Newsletter of the Merry Network

The Merry News is our email newsletter that is sent out periodically. The intent of the newsletter is to inform not only our site users at MMC but the visitors to all sites of the Merry Network of new features and events that we host.

The newsletter is one of the oldest online publications still being published. Started in 1993 with an initial list of about 50 email addresses it has grown now to just over 260,000 loyal subscribers....and it is still growing. Every member of My Merry Christmas.com automatically gets sent a newsletter.

We send several newsletters out between Labor Day and Christmas, fewer the rest of the year.

Following the most recent edition we received several inquiries from users who stated they either did not receive the newsletter or that they received more than one copy of it.

As the advent of spam-prevention technology has come upon us so too has come the increased challenge of getting legitimate email to our site users. This site is an interactive venue designed to update users by way of email. Whenever you get a PM, subscribe to a thread or other similar activities on MMC the system is designed to send you emails about those events. Spam prevention software, especially those associated with AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, MSN Mail and the like tag whatever we send from the site as spam, regardless of how legitimate we are.

We have constantly upgraded our distribution software so that our newsletters and site emails get through -- but the issue is largely beyond our control.

You can ALWAYS go to this link to see the current newsletter online.

We work almost daily at this time of year with upkeep of the list. We receive unsubscribes and actually do them all by hand and respond in person to those who no longer want our newsletter. Likewise, we do the same for those who want to change email addresses or in other ways need service in regards to the newsletter. With signup boxes located on dozens of sites on the Merry Network, it is a constant job.

We hope to keep the newsletter going. Although many sites have given up newsletter publishing due to the low percentage of newsletters that actually get through anymore we will continue to soldier on with ours because we have some site users who just never make it back until November or December each year and the newsletters are their way of keeping up with what is going on with Christmas.

I hope this answers the questions many are having with the newsletter.

thanks,
Jeff
