"Coming out of the Christmas closet" is such a perfect description! I start seriously planning in August, but I'm secretly in Christmas mode all year. It doesn't start for me because it never really ends.

Christmas officially starts for us the weekend after Thanksgiving, all the decorations come out and we go shopping for our tree.

However, all of November I get started on the planning of what baking I'm going to be doing and getting all my recipes together. Plus the christmas music gets put on (currently listening to Johnny Mathis, bliss!)

Christmas starts for me the day after Thanksgiving, when i help my grandmother put up her Christmas tree.
It's been our tradition as long as I can remember, and she even has her old paper train from when she was a little girl in the '20s to put at the bottom! We have ornaments new and old, some a bit chipped, some new and shiny, all special to me, treasured each year when I take them out of the box.
She's going to be 90 this December, so these past few years I've done more of the work, but it's been fun just seeing her face light up as I turn the lights on for the first time.

It's the best way I could ever think to start the Christmas season. ❤
