It's a southern tradition here to eat black eye peas for New Years. It's considered good luck!

As far as other food is concerned it varies as to what I fix along with it each year.

William makes gumbo!!!! On New Years Day we have Hoppin' John (black eyed peas and rice) and cabbage or collards. The black eyed peas for luck and the greens for money in the coming year.

There is a restaurant over here in the States called Red Lobster. It's a seafood restaurant and we usually go there every New Years Eve. I don't eat seafood so I usually get some type of chicken or steak, but the rest of my family gets seafood. We actually won't won't be able to go there this year though because I work and so does my DH.

I am not sure what we will be doing this year. My parents are coming in to watch the kids and will be spending the evening with me before I go to work at 11p, so I guess I will have to see!

On New Years Eve, we have no set meal. We'll eat something that my mom cooked, or whatever is in the house. On New Years Day, however, my mom cooks pork and sauerkraut which is supposed to bring luck for the New Year. We throw some hot dogs in to cook with the pork and sauerkraut. Along with that we eat potatoes, vegetables, etc.
