candle The Future of Incandescent Christmas Lights

Happy New Year Everyone!

I've not posted much on here, but I'm in need of some guidance/solid information.

For the past few years I have decorated my house with C9 light bulbs. I have about 10-12 strands that I have purchased at Menard's Home Improvement over the last couple years, and I use them to outline my roofline.

I'm hearing differing reports about the future of the incandescent light bulb... that they are being "phased out." Personally, I don't like the LED bulbs and their colors. They just don't have the same glow to them as the traditional, old-style bulbs.

Does anyone have any valid information on this? Are we going to be going to all LED bulbs withing the next few years? Will I need to "stock up" while I can before the lights all go on eBay for $10,000?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

It doesn't say much or anything about Christmas lights but here is the story:

I'll try to find the thread but I think we asked this of Jeanette a couple of months ago. She is with ChristmasLightsEtc, our in-house experts on lighting and they know better than anyone where this is headed.

If I recall correctly the answer was that they are not going away -- or at least not any time soon. I land where you are on this issue, by the way.

I'll see if I can't rouse her from the post-Christmas slumber we've all been in and see if she can take up this topic anew.

Jeff

Jeff -

Thanks for the note. I tried to search, but "lights" brings up a LOT of responses.

I can't imagine that all the standard lights will just "disappear" - I'm sure there would have been bigger publicity about it if that was the case. Plus, all the people who do the huge home light displays will need to be prepared with whatever they use.

I'm looking forward to the response! Thank you all!

I too would be interested in finding out. The information on the web is confusing and contradictory, and I'm not sure if I should be stockpiling incandescent Christmas lights or if I will still be able to get them. Thanks for any information!

Incandescents aren't going anywhere; the required efficiency level for them was just raised. There's actually work being done on some LED lights' glow to make them resemble incandescents more. There might be some on the market already but I'm not sure.

The future of Incandescent Christmas Lights

We hear concerned customers all season who fear this may be their last year with their beloved incandescent lights. Incandescent lights are not going away, and they will not be jumping in price due to supply and demand. It does appear that big box stores are stocking less of the incandescents because they can use the same amount of stocking space for LED lights and make larger profits.

It is also pretty safe to say that soon some LED bulbs may resemble incandescents very closely, since this is a constant topic and there is high demand.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for this info! Although I know LED lights may save money in the long run, I just don't think they are as pretty. DH and I have talked about buying them, but agree at this time, we're just not ready for the change to them yet! I think we will stay with the lights we have until we're told we long can use them!

Thak you for the info. I have been stressing about this as well. Especially, since this year at the big box stores, it appeared to be more LED's than incandescents there on the shelves. I kept on thinking to myself how much money it would cost me to change all my lights for both the inside and outside lights.

This year, I was able to put up between 4 and 5 thousand lights total for both inside and outside the house. Mannnn, thats alot of money to have to replace all of them....

Whewwww....
