Gift 2 My BB gun (Pictures included)

I have shared the story of when I got a BB gun for Christmas in 1976 several times in these forums. It was the last Christmas gift I would receive from my father, because he passed away that following March. It was not a Daisy Red Ryder like in A Christmas Story, it was a Crossman 761 XL. And doing some research, I found out it was a special edition of the Crossman 760 series. The 760 had a plastic stock and pump, whereas the 761 XL had a wood stock and pump and a brass receiver. It is actually a very sought after gun for collectors, not that I will ever sell it because of it's sentimental value to me. Well here is a picture of a 15 year old me with my gun. Check out that sweater and yes those are bell bottoms I am wearing.

And this is the same BB gun today. It is 35 years old, and bit scratched up. The scope is actually for a .22 I believe, I had a neighbor that hunted and he bought a new rifle and had a scope he didn't need so he gave it to me. The gun still works, although I don't shoot it anymore.

When bell bottoms came back, I think they were only available for women. It broke my heart when they went out of style, I used to love bell bottoms.

You look like one happy kid, there. It's so nice that you still have it. My sister and I had BB guns when we were kids, but we don't have them any more. I wish we did.

Oh one other thing. Like in "A Christmas Story" my mother didn't want me having the gun. Unlike the movie, it wasn't because I would shoot my eye out, it was because I had a bad temper and my brother and I fought a lot, she was afraid I was going to shoot him with it. Ironically he shot me on the butt by accident, it did sting, but that's all, he only pumped it 1 time, so it wasn't very hard. He let me shoot him back to make it even, LOL.

My mom was the same way. She figured I would shoot my sister's with it if we got in a fight. Finally my Great Uncle bought me one a lot like your's when I was 15. I wish I still had it. I got rid of it when I moved into my apartment though because the seals had ruptured and it didn't shoot anymore.
