How Does Your Easter Go

Hi all
Just wondering what do all you guys do at easter,
Do you have dinner. holidays. go away. decorate ?????????

Over there we have a easter sunday dinner ( usually iis something like christmas dinner) the next day we call easter monday
Most like a weeks holidays the kids get from holy thursday and workers get a week
Not a lot of decoration about over here. i have a few outdoor airblown bunnies and a set of ground lighted easter eggs and have a few things for the house
Good friday the bars shut at 3 and dont open again to 8
Holy saturday the bars have no music in then
Easter sunday there is usually musc in bars and easter monday night is a big night going out ways
I suppose in a way its like a mini christmas!!
If the weather is good lots of people wood go away as a lot of places open then that has been closed over the winter
Easter eggs is usually the big thing they are in the shop already!!.

in my area Easter is a bit like you said. the government offices close either the fri. before or the mon. after. lots of people go away on vacations to the beach or to see family. lots of people get their "Easter outfit" to wear to church or on that sunday.lots of churches have sunrise service relating to Jesus' rise from the tomb. it's a very spiritual day for Christians & some who aren't Christian use it as a "party weekend." it is spring then so everything is beautiful & in bloom usually. our family always has a big Easter dinner & if there's small kids around we have an Easter egg hunt in the afternoon. i love Easter, it's a very beautiful celebration.

A lot of families celebrate it differently here. For us it's not near as big of a celebration as Thanksgiving and Christmas but it's nice. First I go to work. We are closed but I go in and feed the animals then head to church. After church they have an Easter egg hunt there for the kids. Sometimes my grandkids come to my house for another Easter egg hunt unless they have a lot of families to visit on their dad's side. Some years Wayne and I go out to eat for lunch or fix a nice lunch here at home. It's usually quiet here and we just relax.

There are some families that have really big celebrations. If it's a nice day the lakes and parks are crowded with families having picnics. I would like to do that sometime but a lot of my family really don't do anything. =(

As Merrymistletoe mentioned, some go all out buying Easter clothes. I don't do that, I just wear something I already own. Our church doesn't seem to emphasize the need to wear something new but I seen some that everyone is wearing something brand new and fancy. It's just a personal preference for some to shop for new dresses and shoes. =)

Good Friday: DH & I are off work. Most years I take DD shopping, last year we went camping from Thursday night-Saturday morning

Saturday: church egg hunt, maybe lunch with my side of the family & the kids hunt eggs, some years I go shopping if I didn't do it on Friday

Sunday: sunrise service (we're now back at our home church, so I assume we'll go), breakfast prepared by men of the church, church service; probably will go to DH's parent's house for lunch & pictures, then home again before night church service. Easter will be busier this year than it has been since we're at our home church & not with DH's parents.

DD will have a new dress & shoes. DH will get a new shirt. I will get at least a part of a new outfit (skirt or blouse).

I had a collection of plastic Easter eggs before DD was born. We've never dyed eggs at home, but she did it at daycare. We're still using plastic eggs from the ones she's gotten over the years at hunts. I have some wooden eggs that I put in a stand on the dining room table.

My kids are teenagers now, and it saddened me, to not have them excited about Easter when they got older. So, to keep them interested in Easter, I still get them each an Easter Basket filled with Chocolate, books, gift cards and such.

When they were little we used to do a Easter Egg hunt, each plastic little egg was filled with candy, now, to peak their intrest, I place eggs around the house at night filled with money (a couple of dollars or change in each). You know teenagers, to get or keep their intrest or attention, just give them money or food....

After that we have the family over for dinner (either a big ham or turkey)

We go to Church first, then come home and cook. We have lamb, ham, fancy jello salads, asparagus, some sort of potatoes, and homemade cheesecake for dessert. Other than church and supper, we just sort of sit around and sleep, because we have been doing church services and setting up MORE church services since the previous Thursday night. Sometimes we'll watch "The 10 Commandments"...just because we all like it. Once and awhile, when my Husband has off on Friday, we'll dye eggs. But usually we don't get to do that any more.

It seems to be that way. A lot of people talk about going out to buy Easter clothes.

You will also see a lot more ads in the sales paper as Easter is approaching for fancy little girl dresses, bonnets and shoes. That also goes for men and women's dress clothes as well.

It is way too cute when you see little girls in fancy dresses and Easter bonnets!

Merrybells mentioned about watching The 10 Commandments. I forgot to mention that is my tradition as well and I also like watching the movies about Jesus on Easter.

Our easter goes something like this: on friday we decorate the house with spring flowers, bunnies, eggs, chicks and than we color our eggs and bake special pastry walnuts with called POTICA. On saturday the man go to church early in the morning in bring home special easter fire. In the afternoon we bring food (easter ham, eggs, horseradish, potica, bread...) in the basket to church for blessing. On sunday we get up early for church and than we have special easter breakfast, we eat the blessed food. I don't go to church very often but i like to go on christmas eve and easter- It's tradition.
