My Dog Sam
Dear Abby, I too was picked on when I was a child and I too turned to our dog Queenie. She always gave me love and she always listened. Bless you.
What do you think is the best part about Christmas Eve?
For me, it's the anticipation, knowing that Christmas is just one sleep away! Everyone seems to be in a much happier mood on christmas eve. I love the fact that for me, by christmas eve everything is done - the house is decorated, the gifts are wrapped, all of the cooking that can be done ahead of time is done, the larder is full - so you can just relax and really savour the Christmassy feel, drink in the atmosphere. I love curling up with a hot drink by the lights from the tree with some christmas carols playing.
Also, seeing young children who are so excited about Santa visiting that evening!
Christmas Eve - My FAVORITE day of the year! I love waking up & realizing it's my favorite day of the year! Turning on my Christmas music, or Christmas specials on tv, wrapping presents that I don't have wrapped yet & bringing them to my parents to put under the tree, seeing 2 of my brothers & my sister in law who are at my parents (home for the holidays!) helping Mom set up for the evening festivites (including a new tradition - putting red & green plasticwear, along with a candy cane in a small Christmas stocking at each place setting - it really turns out cute w/ nearly 40 stockings at the tables) then I go home, finish making food, wait for my hubby to get home from work & we go back to my parents for dinner, then the Grandkids open their presents, & then we have the adult exchange, where you draw #'s & steal gifts, etc. Then we go caroling to the neighbors (my Aunt & Uncle live next door to my parents & they also have a large family, so we visit w/ them for a bit) then I walk to the next house which is my best friends parents house & visit with them for a bit, then it's back to my parents to enjoy whatever chaos is going on! Lol!! It's tons of fun!!
Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace & goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.
In our house, the tracking of Santa is big. The kids plaster a big map on the wall and then follow the updates from SantaUpdate.com all day. Last year they got a little more technical. They used a dry erase marker to follow his flight path and then inserted the times news was posted of each stop. We must have had 30 kids from around the neighborhood running in and out checking the map!
I love waking up in the morning and just "feeling" Christmas everywhere. Knowing that Christmas is just one day away.
I love putting the finishing touches on gifts and food while watching Christmas specials on tv or while listening to Christmas music.
I love going over to my in-laws (yes, even that) where they host their annual Christmas Eve open house. The food is phenomenal (my mother-in-law is a pretty lousy cook when it comes to meals but her appetizers and hors dourves ROCK!), the company is always entertaining (last year my father-in-law lit a blaze in the grill that nearly brought the whole house down, literally) and we always turn on A Christmas Story as the background to our evening.
I even love driving home in the crisp winter night, half watching the sky (well, you never know if you're going to see Santa).
The kids! Christmas through their eyes is the best. Getting ready for Santa to come, putting out the cookies, reading The Night Before Christmas, Watching A Christmas Story marathon....Brings a smile to my face just thinking about it.
i love everything about christmas eve, it's just amazing! i love the atmosphere, everyone seems happy, i love eating, drinking and seeing loved ones on christmas eve, i love the tv programmes that are on, i love the cold, crisp weather, i love EVERYTHING! it's my favourite day of the whole year!
The excitement and anticipation of Christmas Eve is my favorite part. The kids are all hyped up with continuous grins on their faces. I also love the feeling you get from everyone. Everyone seems to be in such a warm, friendly mood. There seems to be a spirit of love present that isn't always there throughout the year.
My "ultimate" favorite part is the Christmas Eve service at church. All the kids get up in front and sing carols and recipe scripture passages. Seeing all those little ones, dressed up, faces scrubbed shiny, hair all neat for quite possible the only time that year, all excitedly telling about the birth of the Savior. That's the best part.
Aside from that, it's the whole aura of the day. As others have said, just knowing it's the day before Christmas, almost everything is done, the house smells wonderful, all the decorations everywhere are up, playing Christmas music, watching 24 hours of A Christmas Story, opening the family presents, the anticipation of Santa coming. It's the whole package.
