Christmas Card Decorating: my new tradition!

Last Christmas season, I got to noticing I had a lot of Christmas cards left over from the prior year (unused ones I had bought and didn't send, and ones that I had received).

I got to looking at all of the lovely designs and artwork, and decided: you know what? I'll decorate my house with these! I put a lot of them on top of the upper shelves in the kitchen (up high so that you notice them as you walk into the kitchen). Others got put out as table top displays or shelf displays. It went over pretty well, the kids loved them, and family coming by to visit certainly took notice of them!

Of course, in addition to the ones I used for decorations, I bought more cards last season (to send out Christmas cards for that year) and I got more cards in the mail from friends/relatives...so this year I'm considering expanding the decorating! Maybe some picture collage frames, with Christmas cards on the wall! And whatever other ideas I can come up with.

I didn't realize how much fun Christmas cards can be! It's like collecting baseball cards or trading cards, except much more festive!

Anyone else here decorate with Christmas cards?

It's a great idea! You should consider posting some photos in the Show Us Your Christmas thread --- we'd love to see your card decorations!

That's a lovely idea.

I hold on to most of my christmas cards each year. I keep them in a box and the following year I love reading through them and the memories they bring back.I string them up on the walls (like a garland) all over the house, including along the staircase. I also put larger and more ornate ones on shelves etc.

I have the first cards my hubby and I exchanged when we were just dating which said boyfriend/girlfriend on them followed by ''Fiance'' , ''Wife/Husband'' and now ''Mum/Dad''. I like putting them up in sequence so that they remind us of how far we have come over the past christmassses. One day we will add ''Grandmother/Grandfather'' to that sequence

The cards around the house look pretty and I like the idea of being surrounded by all the well wishes inside of the cards too.....if you know what I mean.

I love the idea of using them for a collage ! I look forward to your photos!

Oooh, a garland, that sounds creative! I guess you would have to punch holes in the cards though. But that would be a neat way to hang them on the wall then...

Thanks, I'm going to have to experiment this year, that's for sure!
