Over the course of the next few weeks you may reach a point where you try to use MMC and won't be able to. Why? Because your email address on file is invalid.
We continue to fight bots and spammers. It is a year round constant effort and we especially become a target at this time of the year. They get smarter all the time and it requires us to make continual adjustments.
A valid email address that accepts email from MMC helps us to identify you as a legitimate person and not a bot or a spammer. We do not send out a lot of newsletters, generally about four or five a year and those come usually in the fourth quarter.
It is HIGHLY recommended that you do not use, if you can help it, email addresses from Gmail, Hotmail, AOL, Yahoo, etc. These services typically identify email from the forums as spam and they could kick back and disable your account without you knowing. If you do use these services please be sure to list mymerrychristmas.com on your DO NOT BLOCK list to keep our email out of your spam folders.
In addition we do NOT share your emails with any outside party for any reason whatsoever on ANY of our sites.
If you frequently use the forums email is used to notify you of new private messages or of activities in "watched" threads that you specify. You can determine which emails you receive through your user control panel.
If you have not checked your email settings you can see and edit them in the User Control Panel under "Edit Your Details
Please be aware also that we are tightening the use of passwords. You need to use a secure password at MMC. This protects the community. In recent months we have had some password exploits on a scant handful of accounts that were used to send spam via PM. The private message system is OUR internal system and we can only ensure the integrity of it if you have a strong password.
You might soon receive a notice to change your password to something more secure.
Finally, our traffic ALWAYS takes a big jump beginning the day after Halloween (funny how that happens) and we appreciate all eyes on those areas of the forums where people can post content: that would be in the forum areas, via private message, visitor messages in profiles, comments on pictures or videos, comments in articles, etc.
If you see any inappropriate "spammy" type messages in these areas (they will usually contain a link) please contact me or a member of the Christmas Crew.
