santahat Question: What was Santa's worst tragedy?

From Madison G there comes this question:

What was Santa's worst tragedy?

What a serious question, Madison, and a very good one. Thank you for asking.

Santa and I had a long talk about this the other night by the fire. He thought about it a long time before answering. The answer might surprise you.

He said: "Any time a child does not feel love, that is tragic to me."

And that was all he said. I thought about that and I could not help asking Santa more questions about it. After all, Santa visits lots of kids with special problems. He talks to kids that are sick in hospitals. He talks to kids who have lost a parent. He talks to kids who have been injured. Those are all sad situations.

"Yes," Santa said. "But if you think about it a child who suffers something so bad often needs just love to feel better. When a child does not receive love, that is tragic."

Now, in case your question was meant for Santa personally, he wants you to know that like everyone he has had a bad time or two in his life. Bad things happen to good people all the time.

"We go through things to grow and to understand, to make our hearts more soft towards each other," Santa said. "I hate to see anyone have a hard time. But there is a lot of love to learn by helping each other through things. I've been helped a lot by my family, my friends and by kids like Madison."
