stocking Question: Do elves work year round?

From Eleanor C., age 10. Also posted yesterday. She asks:

Do you work all year round as an elf or just when it starts to get near Christmas?

It's year-round, kid. Day and night, night and day it is nothing but the cold drudgery of eggnog, Jingles Bells, sugar plums and White Christmas.

Think about it: we make snowballs in July, we eat fruitcake for breakfast, our night lights are Christmas trees and all my clothes are red with matching fuzzy hats.

What kind of life is that?

I tell you. One of these days I'm gonna get a real job. I wanna be a KID.
