I think Sim captures the Scrooge change of heart the best.

Patrick Stewart version is more like the book to me, for example the scene where the Ghost of Christmas Present takes him to the lighthouse, coal mine, and the ship at sea to see different people celebrating Christmas.
It also has the scene on Christmas morning where Scrooge goes to church.

It also shows the Cratchetts as I believe they would look (bad teeth, skinny from not having much food)

The one con I would have for this version is that Stewart certainly captures the cold, steel heart of Scrooge, but not necessarily the scary, mean side of Scrooge like Scott and Sim. It's not his acting, just his voice doesn't go where Scott and Sim go with the character.

George C. Scott is an excellent version and one of my favorites, especially the setting, which was the first Christmas Carol actually shot in the district where the book took place. My kids think it is the scariest version which makes me remember how much A Christmas Carol scared me when I was a boy. We had an old record of it. I may be wrong, but I think Reginald Owen read that one.

I can never narrow down which I think is the best, but each year it is a must for me to watch Scott, Stewart, and Sim's version.

If it was on an old record, it's probably Lionel Barrymore (who played Scrooge on the radio for decades and would have played the role in the M-G-M version had it not been for a disability that confined him to a wheelchair), or Basil Rathbone---I know their portrayals were released on LPs. Both versions are still available.

I'm going to dig in the old vinyl collection my Mom gave me and see if it's in there.

Here's the old record, or at least an MP3 of it. It was Ronald Colman.
