An Apology
I truly want to apologize for the things I have said today about some of the parents at our school.
I do have some parents who care about their children’s education and behavior in school. Some parents seem to welcome my calls when we are trying to guide their child in correct behavior and responsibility. Some parents inform me when there have been changes in the household that might affect their kids’ behavior. Some parents thank me for what I do for their kids.
The thing that saddens me, though, is that the list of parents who exhibit caring behaviors and attitudes has become shorter each year. I do have to admit that today is not like it was years ago when we were in school. I am concerned by the number of parents in our school system who have a lot of issues such as authority issues, mental health issues, drinking issues, and drug issues. I have seen how the family unit has changed over the years and how the attitudes have changed with it. For example, I am sure many of you remember that if you got into trouble in school, you also got into trouble at home. I see less and less of that today. I have been verbally attacked because a parent will not listen to what actually happened in the classroom, and does not want to have to deal with problems that may have been of his or her child’s own making. I have seen a parent who does not make his child attend school: Last year, one student missed 35 school days, and this year another student has missed close to that. Several years ago, the parents of a child who had missed 32 days of school was pulled from my class in April because the mother (who had some mental health issues) said I was picking on her child because I made that child make up all the work he missed. One other set of parents was brought up on charges of not making their kids attend school (one was in my class) and then sued the school district, not accepting their responsibility in the lack of their kids’ education. Then the parent wonders why his or her child has problems in school. Several years ago, two students were openly rebellious and refused to listen and abide by the classroom and school rules. That was the year that our principal would not back the teachers’ discipline plans and insisted it was the fault of the teachers!
So many days I feel so helpless. Thank goodness there is such a thing as prayer.
If I could have one wish, I would wish that I had YOUR child in my classroom. Then I would know that we could work together to further the kids’ education and that your kids would see the mutual respect that would be evident in our personal and professional relationships.
Thanks for listening.

I have to drop my eldest off for work soon and stop at the drug store for some sore muscle rub in hopes that the pain in my arm will subside and I can sleep tonight.

Hope you all have a good sleep, talk to you in the morning!

Oh Seawaters.....

You don't need to apologize. Though I have no human kids, I, we all understand your frustration. It seems to me that there are so many people this day and age who have children but do not want the responsibility of RAISING THEM. They expect the mall/television/teachers to do their job for them and then they wonder why their kids are not doing well, as you say.

Being a teacher cannot be an easy thing. I applaud you for not only being an excellent teacher but also a very loving and caring one. If you had been my teacher in first grade, I would not have the horrible memories I have now of it. I was just a tiny child and my teacher was suffering some misfortunes in her personal life which made her impatient. If you didn't know the answer to something she would yank you up by your arm very briskly and get pretty rough while she marched you up to stand in front of the class. Needless to say I was in tears many, many times. Thankfully I got through it and my next teacher was a very nice person, like you. It is because of people like YOU who really care about the kids that those same kids stand a chance in this world.

From the bottom of my heart and with deep respect and also applause, I am honored to have you as my dear friend and oh yes, thank you so very much for caring ((((HUGS)))) xo

Hubby was not happy with the Broncos' outcome. He is smiling about the 49ers so far! Time for jammies and TV-watching. TTYT

Thank you, CM3. Your kind words truly touched my heart! I cannot understand why a grownup would treat a child the way your first grade teacher did. We are professionals and should act like it!

For Seawaters, Mrs. Xmas And For All Who Teach..........

When You Thought I Wasn't Looking

When you thought I wasn't looking, you displayed my first report, and I wanted to do another.
When you thought I wasn't looking, you fed a stray cat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn't looking, you gave me a sticker, and I knew that things were special things.
When you thought I wasn't looking, you put your arm around me, and I felt loved.
When you thought I wasn't looking I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt--but that it's all right to cry.
When you thought I wasn't looking, you smiled, and it made me want to look that pretty too.
When you thought I wasn't looking, you cared, and I wanted to be everything I could be.
When you thought I wasn't looking--I looked...and wanted to say thanks for all those things you did when you thought I wasn't looking.
- Mary Rita Schilke Korzan

THANK YOU !!!!!!

Great day!

Started off with coffee, work, football, went out to eat with the wife, home for more football...

Tomorrow, more football.

I know some of you wonder what will I do when football is over....but it will be ok.

Then it will be coffee, work, racing, going out to eat with the wife, and more racing.....

Daytona is on the way, Made!

What are you saying sorry for ????
i bet you see more of them kids than some of there parents do
i see where your coming from , you try and do your best. as am sure you see the signs
Some parents dont want to listen, theres nothing like there kid and they can do no wrong and if you say anything your picking on them
Its ths same over here , and i think if you have the seem the crap that is going on over here about a flag you wood see that they are young ppl, what are the parents doing
you can only support them at school if they dont get it after school as well and when a treacher speaks up they are the worst in the world,
Am sure at times it makes you mad , as you see it and want to help but you might as well talk to yourself, i think some parents are glad to get rid of the kids to school for a while
So i dont think you have anything to say sorry about
