santahat Dear Santa: Canít You Just Be Santa at Christmas?

We received this interesting email from a site visitor recently: Dear Santa, We returned recently from a little family vacation. We took a ferry out of Vancouver for a sight seeing tour and shared our boat with several friendly and jolly Santas. I cannot remember where they said they were from. There were seven or […]

It's too bad that this lady was caught in a situation that raised awkward questions from her children. My husband always said that his answer to that situation would be to tell the child that---like the police, the firemen, and the army---Santa can't do all his work alone, so he has helpers who all wear the same uniform. I always thought that was a great explanation.

Parents shouldn't be put in this position. The Santa community out there needs to recognize that they AREN'T Santa except when Santa is expected to be present.

But something happens with a lot of these guys when they wear red and march around with business cards that say "I'm Santa Tom".

Santa is a sacred character that needs to be present in his role when he is only truly himself.

A group of old guys dressed like Santa together speaks more to their ego and desires than to the service of a child...or respect for the character of Santa Claus.
