ornament Falling into Fall

What are your favourite fall traditions and memories?

Sweet September atlast and as we sail thorugh this month we say goodbye to warm, sunny summer days and welcome the arrival of cool, crisp, cosy autumn.

As the seasons transition so do we ! Our mood, behaviour and habits change. I love wearing my warm cosy jumpers again, walking through fallen leaves on a crisp, cold day, making and enjoying delicious comfort foods, apple cider, scented candles and snuggling up on the sofa with a good book on dark, dismal days and nights.

These dusky months are the perfect haunting setting for reading and watching mystery, thrillers and fantasy adventures. I always anticipate Patricia Cornwell's latest release around this time and re reading the Harry Potter books and watching the films. There are certain Tv shows I look forward to as well.

The chill in the air and the rainy days make listening to the soothing soulful sounds of Jazz and Blues deeply satisfying. I have it on while doing my traditional deep cleaning which I always do this time of year.

This year I would like to add to our traditions by including some fall decorations throughout the house. Next year I hope to grow our own pumpkins and harvest them in time for Halloween.

What are some of your favourite fall traditions and memories?

I so agree Festive Spirit! While it's hard to truly enjoy Fall where I live (Sunny Florida), I celebrate it as best I can. I'm starting to go thru my favorite sweaters (or "jumpers" as you call them) and boots, print out LOTS of slow cooker recipes, re-read the Harry Potter books (can't get enough of them!) and get ready (and, excited!) for the upcoming holiday season!

Fall........aaahhhh......I love it, being in Canada our Thanksgiving is in October, actually it falls on your Columbus Day. Sometimes it can be quite warmish, and sometimes coolish, it's not quite the same as your Thanksgiving, as I have experienced for many years while a child. My Grandmother was an old fashioned country cook, and too this day, whenever I prepare the stuffing with the onions and celery sauteing in butter, it always takes me back to that precious time.
The smell of leaves on the earths floor in the woods, always takes me back to my childhood memories hiding in the piles of racked fallen leaves, and laughing with endless joy at the thought that winter would soon be arriving.
I also love to collect the coloured leaves and place in bowls for decoration with chestnuts and Acorns scattered over them. I take long walks in the Mountain Park through the woods collecting them, and smelling the cool crisp air.....I love Fall, and I will be picking up with my writting, now that the busy summer season is coming to an end, drinking Hot Apple Cider with cinnamon sticks, and making my famous Savoury Popcorn which goes over big all year long!
I will also be starting my baking, and for Thanksgiving I will prepare my ususal Buttermilk Lemon and Blueberry Pound Cakes which are to DIE for! And everyone wants the recipe, and my own "Sticky Buns" with pecans, candied fruits, topped with a buttery Carmelized topping........YUMMMMMM!
I will try and add photos later in October!
So those are some of my Fall traditions and memories.
This was a great idea for discussion thanks for starting it!
Talk with you later......and may you all have a great and blessed day!

Kimothy, sometimes I feel the same way about truly enjoying Fall (I live in sunny Southern California, LOL). It's still my favorite season though.

I love the colors associated with Fall. Even in California the temperature drops. I love that because summers here can be hot! When the weather cools, I like getting warm and cozy with the heater on. Sometimes I even drink some hot chocolate. Sadly, unless I lived in the desert or the mountains, it never gets cold enough in the Winters to get snow, but sometimes we do get some nice rain in Fall and Winter. I've always wanted to see snow though but I don't like the mountains.

Usually in the beginning of Fall I start thinking about all of the holidays (primarily Christmas). I start listening to Christmas music and I begin trying to figure out what I'm going to dress up as for Halloween. After Halloween or a little before it, I start making my family's Christmas lists. I also start thinking about Thanksgiving and the unofficial start of the holiday season. Part of the reason why I like Fall so much, is because the holiday season is in it.

My favorite Fall memories involve my brothers and I going trick-or-treating, Thanksgiving dinner and watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and going to Black Friday for the first time last year to get my grandma an Ipad for last Christmas.

And, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan by the way. I've read all the books and seen all the movies several times.

I too love getting out all my warm sweaters and hoodies, boots and jeans. For me fall means high school football on Friday nights, cool weather to go apple picking and leaf gazing here in North Carolina. It also means I can start baking and cooking all the warm comfort foods we all love.

I also love changing all my decor from all the bright colors to the warm and soothing colors. My couch and chairs all have the warm throws and pillows on them.

Another thing I love about fall is the smells...the smell of the fresh air, the smell of things baking or just the smell of candles burning

Can't you tell fall is one of my favorite times of the year!!

You all have said it very well!! I'm feeling so fall'ish & holiday'ish after reading this!!! What I love the most might be the anticipation for all the Holidays!!! Along with the cooking & baking & cool nights with a bonfire & watching football (Buckeyes on the big screen during night games) & fall scented candles, & fall festivals, & walking in the park through the leaves, & apple cider with captain morgan OR wine with mulling spices, morning walks in the crisp (not c-c-c-cold) air, and we (sisters, mom & I) start going to movies in the fall (and winter) Ahhhhh - I love it!

Love this thread!! 🍁🌻🍂🎃

My husband & I love to go to a pumpkin patch, and pick some beauties out to carve. We also go to haunted houses, go on hay rides, find our way through corn mazes. We enjoy going to a winery in the country, do some tasting & walk the property & enjoy the colors!!
I love to do some Fall baking, eat as many comfort foods as possible, decorate, sit on the deck, go for long walks & listen to the leaves crunch beneath my feet. Curl up with a good mystery book! Watch football! And burn pumpkin spice, cinnamon, apple, and spice scents.
Also hit up as many fall festivals & craft shows as possible!! And let's not forget some good spooky stories around a campfire!!

Great thread! My favorite memories and times are those first crisp cool days we get around here in October. I love thinking about Halloween and listening to Christmas music for the first time in my car. When I was a kid I would start writing letters to Santa in October and place them on our fireplace so they would be swept up through the chimney as I slept and whisked away to the North Pole!
