I ditched cable almost 5 years ago and haven't missed it at all. Well...that's not true. This may sound weird but I miss Christmas commercials. For some reason, they help make it seem more Christmas-like for me. Probably because I watched a LOT of TV as a kid.

My wife assigned each of us a Christmas icon - snowflakes for our youngest daughter, trees for our oldest, bulbs for her, and Santa for me - and we went in order from youngest to oldest picking a single feature film or a couple specials. She wrote those titles on one of our icons and we placed it on the calendar. Now we have our own 25 days of Christmas calendar of viewing.

We had lots more on the list than we had spaces on the calendar, but we agreed that we could always add something to the viewing schedule, especially on the weekends or after the kids are on break from school!

My wife still has some surprise up her sleeve… she insists that the 25th space will be filled in with something special.

That is awesome!! Great job!

"Without cable"? I don't understand.

***flips through old HS English book***

I don't think those two words can be used together. "Without" and "Cable". No-no-no-no-no, that's not right. How in the world would you be able to keep up with new episodes of "The Walking Dead"?

Hey guys! I just saw that on the ABC app you can watch A Charlie Brown Christmas!!! It said it expires in three days but I just thought that all you guys without cable would want to know. I bet you can watch it online without the app but I'm not sure.

I'm watching it via the app right now.

UPDATE: The countdown to Christmas calendar is working wonderfully. We've been able to watch every scheduled movie, show, or special as planned since December 1. Things got a little dicey when we had to use VHS for a couple of old specials from the 80's, but we managed to work things out. It's nice during this hectic time to force yourself to settle down as a family, even if it's just to watch TV!
