star Can I move out?

My kids, actually they are young adults., all live at home. The two girls will be going to college in September. My son sits at home and watches tv all day. I am just tired of cleaning up, preparing meals, putting up with PMS and asking that they help around here sometimes. I know my son has a learning disability, but he is capable of doing some work, just will not get off his duff and look. My girls seem to think I owe them and should put up with their cranky attitudes. Of course, I know it is not this way all the time, but today, I have just had enough!! I even got out the ads to see what apartments are available.
Just need to vent. Thanks for listening. I am going to the spring home show now.

Sounds like they need a taste of their own medicine. As you know life isn't easy. They need to get out and figure out what life is all about. After doing this and realizing nothing in life is free they will have more respect of where you are coming from. Here is a link with tips on getting your children living on their own, freeloader and moochers. Hope it helps.

Sounds like you have your hands full too. Have your tried giving them a dose of reality especially since your daughters will going off to college. Have them prepare their own meals, do their own laundry. If they are leaving their stuff laying around the house collect their stuff into a laundry basket and maybe dump it on their floor or bed. hope things het better for you. I honestly understand what it's like to work full time and then come home and turning to a maid/chef/etc but I have learned to set boundries and "assign" chores.

I saw this movie called : Mommy on Strike, maybe you should do that, she wouldn't cook, clean , or do laundry for anyone but herself. I agree what everyone saids they need to respect all you do for them so maybe if you stop doing for them they will see just how much you really do .
I hope your day gets better.

That has possibilities, Jeff!

Christmasstar, you can move south with us. LadyJonD & I are empty nesters since our, soon to be twenty, daughter moved out just before Christmas last. Funny, but I wasn't ready for the move! Her older brother has been out about ten years and I still miss him too.

I don't recall this movie but I do recall on the nightly news where a mother went on strike like you mentioned and she lived/camped out in the tree fort in the back yard. There was alot of media attention on this issue. And if I recall correctly it really woke her family up.

I like alot of these ideas. But if they continue to leave things laying around (clothes and personal effect), bag them up and put a note on the bag that says "Goodwill collection". I would cook minimally (like enough for you) or buy only the food you like. I know that today is a rough one and it's not always like this, but if they are college bound, who is going to cook and clean for them at college? You could always put up a price list of what it costs to do some of the things you are doing.
