Planning for a Major Vacation: How Early & Do You Get Super Excited Already?

Im talking about going to another place in your country - or even another country - that you plan to spend a lot, how early do you plan for this stuffs?

And say, if its a year away, do you get really excited already? Or do you not think about it til about a couple of months away?

For my case, BIG vacations, I get TOTALLY excited, even if its many months away. I plan and save for it for a major experience. Yes, waiting is one of the hardest thing, but its also what makes it great IMO.

The anticipation is half the fun!!! We went on a cruise in March of '08...we booked it in April of '07. I was excited from the time we booked until the day we left! BUT I really got excited after Christmas was over, because that was the next really big thing to look forward too. We went with 8 other couples...you should have seen the emails we had flying around every day. We had countdowns going on...every morning we would get/send an email with the # of days until the cruise & the # of work days left before the cruise. Us girls shopped together for cruise clothes, we went out together the nights before for a "pre-cruise" drink...we had a ball planning/waiting for the day to get here! Have fun & ENJOY!!!

The only time I get out of town is at Christmas -- then I'm everywhere! I let the elves do the planning.

I leave for California in 79 days LOL!!! I've got official countdown going and EVERYONE hears about it every day!

We just booked recently, but I am so excited. This is our first vacation in 3 years and it is well deserved. We learned on our last one that we need to be better prepared, though. We spent a week in FL for our honeymoon and it was miserable b/c we had no money to do anything. So this time we are saving big time to be able to really enjoy ourselves. We may have a contact that works at DisneyLand that can get us in for free? That would be awesome if she can!! Cause otherwise, I can't justify paying that price!

Anyways, so I'm planning well in advance and I'm counting down already!

I also save ahead of time. I like a bargain so I like to plan and look ahead for the best rates and deals on anything and everything. I get excited too but more so as the time draws near.

We're planning a family trip, 6 of us, to Italy for June of 2009. We started planning about a month ago. It is our first trip abroad and we are already securing passports and finding places to stay on our trip. Now airfare....that's another story!

Im really thankful I found this forums. Of the forums I posted this topic, this is where I got the most answers, and something that really shares my feelings towards it(ASIDE FROM CHRISTMAS!!!).

@Holiday - wow thats sweet and great. For my case, its March next year, Im bringing my gf to another part of the country(Manila) as a graduation gift to her. She never rode a plane before nor she been to Manila, so she is excited, and I am totally excited for her. lol. I have a countdown goin on, its still 9 + months away, but thankfully Christmas is there to make it feel shorter!

Thanks guys for sharing... and for making me feel at home here.

Well, for those who can still afford gas, if vacation plans involve a road trip, a playlist is a must!

Going on our cruise in just a couple of months...a we can't wait. The anticipation is delicious, just like Christmas. Honestly, it isn't about where we are going or what we are doing...though those are fun things. For us, it is just alone time for me and my wife. And that's as good as gold and even better.
