My Merry Christmas Announcement

Christmas Decorations Christmas is a hands-on art. From the lights we put on the house to the decorations we put on the tree to the great foods we eat in the process, Christmas is a time of doing -- and this is the place we gather to talk, plan and share.

Retro Christmas

Do any of you go in for the retro Christmas decorations? There are so many things available online from the 40s - 60s. I really love those things because they not only make me think of Christmas, they make me think of my childhood. Double memories.

i like to look at the retro stuff, but dont have any of it. my fave childhood memories are from the 60s as that was when i was 0-12. those are the best ages for great memories. i have a picture here, next to my comp, that is of my grandmother sitting next to her tree. my mother thinks it is from a year before i was born or maybe the year i was born ('57) the tree looks exactly as my minds eye saw it b4 i found this pic. my aunt always had aluminum trees and whenever i see one of those, it makes me smile....
i recently found some xmas cards that has pix of gnomes in holiday garb that are identical to some ornaments my mother had when i was little. i bought a lot of em!

Are any of your grandparents still around? I lost the last of mine around 1976. Two of them I never even met.

the granny in aforementioned pic died in 1973 and grandaddy (her dh) died a couple of years later. my father's parents died 10 and 12 years ago.

I have to say post 1970s, since I was born in 1979! My MIL has some old decorations, but I don't like them. There are a few ornaments, however, that I do like.

I was born in 74 so does that give you an idea what my decorations lean towards?

I'm a child of the 60s, so mine are all tie died and groovy....NOT

I like the traditional old ornaments and some of the newer ones...though I don't understand what the crew of Star Trek being beemed up has to do with Christmas.
