Every year, my parents invite the family over for a big Christmas Eve buffet. It usually includes, meatballs, mini hotdogs wrapped in buns, mini pizza's, shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops, and a whole bunch of finger foods. Since everyone has families of there own, it's nice to get together on Christmas Eve.

For the last five or six years we've gone to a local deli a few days before and ordered a three or four foot hoagie and then on Christmas Even around noon we go and pick it up and that serves as our main meal for the rest of the day/night. Of course we have other side dishes (potato salad, noodle salad, cake, etc) but the hoagie is our main dish and we pretty much eat it non stop until its time to goto bed....LOL

On christmas eve we normally have rolled smoked ham as main dish with side dishes like potato salad or boiled potatoes (in their jackets), green salad, a variety of cheese (like emmenthaler cheese, appenzeller cheese, cream cheese, brie ect.), bread and dips. Or we making a raclette or fondue.

on chrismas day or the second christmas day if we are with my mums family (grandma, uncles and aunts, cousins) we have a dessert buffet at noon with lots of cakes, muffins, cookies, mousse o chocolate (made by my god aunt, the best I ever had!) and other sweet things. We usually don't eat anything before or after it.

If we are with my dads family (grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and partners ect.) we have a buffet with different dishes such as ham, steaks, chicken breast, salads, potato, vegetables usw. Or we making a raclette or fondue.

We don't really eat supper on Christmas Eve. We have a really late lunch, then go to Church for final set up, choir warm-up, and the service. Then we go home and eat lunchmeat sandwiches. I could have something else, but the lunchmeat seems to have become a tradition for us. (We don't usually eat it any other time)

We don't eat a big meal on Christmas Eve. Instead, we have an assortment of appetizers, then after our food settles, I put our christmas cookies, and coffee or tea.

I'm always out and on the go on Christmas Eve. We never have time to cook anything, so we usually end up at a Chinese takeaway about eleven o'clock.

On christmas eve we don't really have a main meal as such, we usually have a buffet with lots of snacks and finger foods. Things like filo prawns, chicken wings, sausage rolls , nachos etc.

When I was little we always roasted a ham on christmas eve and had it on homemade christmas bread. So I sometimes roast a ham now too.

Ofcourse , it wouldn't be christmas eve without a few sweet treats too like fruit cake, cinnamon and vanilla cookies, marshmallows etc. We also like to have warm mulled wine or spiced rum.

Our Christmas Eve meal usually consists of hot dogs cooked over my grandmother's fireplace, homemade deli salad sandwiches (ham, tuna, and chicken salads), cheese and crackers, potato chips, homemade caramel corn, and an assortment of cookies. Christmas day is reserved for the feasts at my parents' and my grandmother-in-law's houses.
