I have some friends who do it and it's especially nice for people who don't celebrate Christmas (I had a lot of Jewish friends growing up, very mixed crowd in my area). I do feel bad for those that do and have to work at the theater though.

Boogedy - for those that have to work at the theatre -- I hope they get to get their families in free!

Christmas is a time of pain for a lot of people, unfortunately. They can be a part of a group, and get their minds off their pain, by going to the movies. I am happy that option is available for people who need it!!!

I've taken the kids to the theater later in the day. We don't have family to visit, and since we get up so early to open presents by the time 4pm hits they've played with everything and are looking for something else to do! I don't do it every year, just if something good is out.

No movies here, but of course I couldn't do either, no way I am going to be able to pull the children away from their new toys to go to a movie.

Yeah, we sometimes do it. We go out with the entire family and watch a movie.

We do it on Thanksgiving day after we've eaten or on Christmas day once everything has wound down. I don't particularly like it but I also don't exactly dislike it.

it never ceases to amaze me that movies that open on Christmas/Thanksgiving Day actually sell good.
For me it seems very odd to be at a movie theatre on christmas or thanksgiving day, because that's just... well weird. But it's another families tradtion, just like it's weird for me to hear about families who go out for dinner to, like a chinese resturant for example, on one of those days, because both of those days are BIG cooking days for our family.

We use to go to the movies on Christmas evening every year when my aunt and cousin visited us for the holiday. And there were always large crowds of people at the theater.

I know it's totally weird.

My family is VERY *into* movies.

I never thought that it was odd until I started going to my ex-husband's family's house for Christmas. They would NEVER have thought to go out to a movie on Christmas or Thanksgiving. That's when I realized most people do not go to the movies on those days.

Now, I could take it or leave it. If I'm around my mom's family, then it's probably better that we're at the movies instead of everyone loudly talking over each other and making me crazy.
