Christmas Decorations Christmas is a hands-on art. From the lights we put on the house to the decorations we put on the tree to the great foods we eat in the process, Christmas is a time of doing -- and this is the place we gather to talk, plan and share.

It's a blessing to live so close to family. My grandmother came to live with us for a little while before she moved into a home. She had the best stories.

my mommy's sweet potato pie and our family's pound cake. My grandmother (my dad's mother-my parents are divorced but my mom and grandma remained very close) got the pound cake recipe from her mother, then passed it down to my mom. My mom still has the same paper plate she copied it down on almost thirty years ago. My grandma passed away a few years ago, but my mom keeps the paper plate out every time she bakes the cake, not really looking at, it's kind of like a respect thing I think.

If you order a catalog they send it with a threatening sticker: Buy something this time or else!
