We never had a fireplace, so hung them on the banister spindles when I was growing up. My brother and I would come down really early Christmas morning and, OH! how excited we'd be to feel our stockings in the dark and realise Santa had indeed come!

Our banister to go upstairs is right beside the front entrance of the home my husband and I live in, and it's so lovely coming home from work to see them hanging there.

We hang our stockings from a shelf to the side of the wood stove.
I will probably hang them there in the next couple of weeks.
Santa usually puts them on the couch down there in the family room, or sometimes he brings them up and places them on the couch in the living room.

We tore out the fireplace this year and put in a wood stove. Not sure where the stockings will go.....
Something I have yet to figure out.

I have a "faux" fireplace that my stockings go on also. Growing up, my parents use to hang ours from a door..my Mom had a really cute rudolph stocking holder and his antlers would hold my stocking as well as my brothers. We use to hang my Mom and Dad's off the entertainment center because it was 6 ft tall and they looked really cute on each corner!
