LED Color Wheel or Can Uplight?

This is going to be a strange question, but if anyone remembers the aluminum Christmas trees from way back, it won't be that weird. Anyways, I have one but I also have an older color wheel that uses pretty much a spot light. I find this to be a tad bit dangerous with all my cats and just the fact that it heats up a lot.

Is there a safer alternative? Something that does not get so hot? I was hoping for a color changing LED lamp of some sort. Would be compact and nice. If not that, some type of up light that makes the tree just sparkle would work as well.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

The Vermont Country Store has new Color Wheels for $24.95! Click Here!
They require a 60 watt bulb, but I bet you could put a 40 watt or less in there.

Stage lights use LEDs and put on a color show as good as or better than the old color wheels. There is no heat problem at all.
You can find these on the internet...but expect to pay between $50-$100.

There are also alternative bulbs that you can use in your color wheel that give off very little heat.
