I agree that this is an historic innauguration and I hope that it goes a long way to heal some of the racial problems we have in the US. While I didn't vote for President-elect Obama, he was elected President and I will support him and pray for him to do what is right for this Country and the world.

I think that the people who are planning to complain for the next four years should do something with their energy to help the country, not divide it.

I voted for Bush both times and, while he disappointed me and many others, I believe he did what he thought was best for the Country. After all, he is a human being and not perfect. None of us are.

This is one of the great things about our Country: we can express our thoughts, we can put our energies toward making things better.

To our friends across the pond, thank you for being interested and caring about what is happening here in the US. I wish people in the US (including myself at times) would think outside our borders and show more interest in other areas of the world.

Folks

Folks - all i can say is i live here in the DC area... I work for Homeland Security...

I cant really comment past - it saddens me on how many things the public does not know or cant understand to the point they would want someone in office with such little experience to protect this country.

The entire country is in my prayers for the next 4 - or God help us "8" years............

It's only history making to me because I and many in my family never thought we'd live to see a day like this. Honestly, I'm pleasantly surprised when someone who isn't a minority actually can appreciate the moment, because if you're not, why would you care if a ceiling or wall has been broken down? You've never been judged solely on the basis of your skin color or what sex you are. It's not surprising that some aren't connecting to the moment emotionally because it's not part of their own personal struggle.

I

I would disagree with that.
I am not trying to be rude... but i went to a middle school, and high school where i was by far the minority. Can't count how many times i had calls of whitey, or pale boy, and other such as - ur white - you wouldn't get it - even got into fights - just because i was white. In college i went to a school that was about even - but the frats etc - continued to separate folks.
Before high school I grew up in an area where the black kids came to hard rock concerts and the white kids went to see rap concerts.... Somehow - we didn't know any better and we liked it that way.
I did not even truly understand racism until i moved to Louisiana... where both sides seem to hate one another.
Was tough on me... i never had really thought about it until then. I am a white guy and until then had dated black and white girls. It was odd to see ppl acting that way.
In high school i had plenty of friend, played many sports, and was accepted once folks got to know me without a problem..... but for those that didn't know me - i was just another white boy - heck the teachers were the same as well..... even better on the sports teams the coaches would always talk about not letting those whiteboy schools come into our house and beat us.... .

Here is my issue - i think the country has been on the right track (track mind you) for years. Heck ppl in this country are mad at other minorities - now. And with that said - putting anyone in the WhiteHouse based on color or sex is just pure ignorance. Don't get me wrong - McCain is NOT the best choice by any means.... but he did have the experience needed to get us out of this funk we are all in and to help protect this country.
I don't give a rats patutie.... what color or sex the person is.... to be Honest i was begging for a Rice (Pres) / Huakabee (VP) ticket... that would have been INCREDIBLE! She would have protected this country and led with a strong hand and smart mind!

Don't take my comments the wrong way.... but if the race for president was not about race... then why is now historical because its about race.... This is AMERICA - plain and simple - there should be NO Hispanic-Americans, Asian-Americans, African-Americans, or any others..... ONLY Americans ... I do not say i am an Irish-Italian-Cherokee-American.... I am simply an American..... I love and appreciate my ancestors and my family's culture.... but in the end - i love this country where i was born - and that makes me just a simple American.

Now here is the hard question people are not asking - Would Rice have won had she run against Obama? Now..... if he won then (since race and sex would not have been an issue) then i think no one could say a word and all would be trying to work together. I do think she would be a much better choice given her experience.... but still.

Once again - this not to demean anyone or try to slam anyone - i just think the country should take a step back and realize these are going to be really really tough years and the person with the most experience should be there protecting us.... it should not be based on anything more than that...

It's funny -- when we celebrate Christmas in many different ways - we accept it on this board. In fact - we love it. We love it that we do things differently at Christmas - because that makes us richer. Let's try to do that with politics too. Let's be happy for our differences.
