I know in the grand scheme of things this isn't all that important, but to my niece, it is. Yesterday she took her dog, a German Shepherd named Nikita, to her boyfriend's house to spend the day with his dog - they're friends, . Anyway, while they were both at work, someone pulled up a section of the fence going around the yard, and both dogs got out. A neighbor saw the dogs and recognized them, and was able to lure the boyfriend's dog back with a pancake, but Nikita is very shy with strangers and ran away. They all searched the area, called vets, shelters, police etc. She went on to Craig's List to post a lost message, and someone had just posted one that they saw a German Shepherd in the area get hit by a car and run off into a wooded area. They called police and tried to follow the dog, but didn't find her.
My poor niece is so worried about her baby, I think she's barely a year old, still a pup, really. Please pray that Nikita either finds her way back home, or allows someone to catch her and bring her someplace where my niece will be able to get her back.

Not silly at all! I am a dog lover and would be doing the exact same thing, asking for prayers! I really hope everything works out for your neice and her dog. I know that some people you talk to will think that you are silly because they don't understand your true love of your dog but, I understand it. I don't think that it's silly at all. Pets become part of our families and we love them and call them our babies. So, when something bad happens to them it's hard on you and you want to do whatever you can to help them. I will say a prayer that the dog gets help if it needs it and that it can be reunited with your neice. Good luck to you and keep us posted on the outcome. Keeping my fingers crossed!

It is well understood how much pets are loved and how much they become a part of our families. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with your neice. I believe that we all are praying for her safe return to your niece.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. So far, she hasn't found her. There were a few more reports of her running around in that area for a few days, but then nothing. I feel so bad for my niece, she's broken hearted.
Has she tried contacting the local SPCA or Humane Society to see if they have a dog trap she can borrow and have the trap set up in the area where the dog has been spotted? She may have to pay a fee to borrow one but it might be worth a shot. I hope she finds her dog soon!
