The public schools have started. Our kids go to a Christian school, and it starts next week.

Anyway, I will be returning for my final year of university at Carleton on September 10th, which I am quite excited about. I really enjoy my university and although I will be thrilled to have completed my degree, I will be sad to leave.
Better check with your local school board, many have choosen an early start this year. I live in South westren Ontario and we start on September 1. (that is high schools and elementary schools) The early start is to get in more teaching days.
My daughter starts college on September 8th.

I'm curious as to the reasoning behind people's decisions to home school. Faithmom - you do it and Joyful, your grandchildren are home schooled.

Why?? I'm genuinely interested. Do you feel that the education system is inadequate or do you/they live somewhere inaccessible or do you prefer to keep your family together?

It's an unusual concept for me and I'd love to hear why you made your choices

PS
Things have obviously changed - when I was at school in Canada, we didn't go back until after Labour Day as well. In our area in Scotland, they'll be back next week.

And when the "Back to School" sales end at the stores, the shelves are cleared for the Autumn — Halloween — Christmas items!

I remember when I was in school, we didn't start til after Labour Day! But here in NE, AZ I go back to work at the high school tomorrow... Aug 6... that is so insane.... WE still have a month of summer... Only 78 days of summer...So, by my calculations.. 180 days of school, that is without fall break, spring break, Christmas break and the other holidays we get off. By the second week of school I'll have the count downs to Fall break and Christmas break. Then in March, the countdown to the end of school.

This starting on September 1 is new this year. Someone somewhere decided that our kids where not getting enough classroom time in and wanted it changed. So, we will see how it works out.
