We don't usually get carollers here door-to-door (although I did it a couple of times when I was a kid in Boy Scouts)...

Instead, Pittsburgh sponsors Light Up Night in mid-November and there are plenty of Carollers on hand for that, PLUS they usually schedule local high school choirs to sing carols at the Court House every Wednesday at lunchtime throughout the season.

They don’t exactly go from house to house, but “Sing Christmas” goes from public place to public place in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland UK each year. BBC Leicester broadcasts these events on the radio.

Below is a link for last year’s event.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/leicester/conte..._feature.shtml

As soon as this year’s activities are posted, I’ll tack it up in the 2009 Christmas Radio Schedule thread.

I went caroling as a kid in the girl scouts but, I don't get them around where I live. If I did they'd probably be run down by one of the many tractor trailer trucks that fly by my house!!

Funny story and I told this last year too I believe but, my husband is a 911 dispatcher and he got a call from a guy that said that his neighbor was harrassing him by singing Christmas Carols outside of his house! I thought that was funny. I guess not everyone like singing!!!

I wonder if I started a "small" group of my friends.... Maybe I could be that caroller, who knows... Remember, all it takes is one person to smile at you, and before you know it you smile at another, and then they smile, at another.... You get where I 'm going with this, who knows!!!!

A few years ago there was a group of teenagers that went caroling through our neighborhood on Christmas Eve. They stopped at each house and sand one song, wished the home owners a Merry Christmas an dthen moved onto the next house. It was great but have not seen them since. Hope they do it again this year.

When I was 12 years old, a group of my friends got together and decided to go caroling just for fun. We were not affiliated with anyone, just a spur of the moment decision to go. We walked for blocks singing door to door, one house gave us candy and other gave us 2 bucks. We were not expecting anyone to give us anything but we took the 2 bucks and bought a big bottle of soda and candy and split it up. Yep, 20 years ago you could buy some candy with 2 bucks for a group of people. It was one of the best Christmas memories I have had.

My daughter is moving there next week to attend Fanshawe for 2 years!
Guess I better knit her a warm hat and mittens.

I used to go carolling when I was little. I never see carollers anymore. Sad. I live in Misissauga, Ontario and it gets pretty cold here too.
