Christmas Controversy & Opinion Visit Defend Christmas.com Presented by Defend Christmas, this forum covers the difficult topics of the season -- from the famed and fabled War on Christmas to church and state debates to using the star or the angel on the Christmas tree. Modern Christmas celebration has it's complications -- schools are divided, some Christmas light displays are too much, some even argue that it is better to call it a "holiday" tree. Some merchants won't even say "Merry Christmas"! Where there is controversy, there is insanity. Even in Christmas.

My apologies but I did not mean ALL atheist when I said, get a life. I do respect others beliefs, it was just a comment about what I read in the article and that's it.

I do have friends who are atheist, agnostic and other religions and and we get along just fine. We do not push our beliefs on each other.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

C-Nole - =) ...nice post... think we are saying much of the same thing......you still my boy!

gennifyr - sigh... all i can say to the comments you have left is that i know God loves you and that Jesus sacrificed his life for yours. This is something i hope and pray you will understand one day. And if so the joy of this season and its true reason will mean so very much more to your heart and soul. In the meantime i still hope you have have the Merriest Christmas possible and my family will keep you in our prayers.

I think there is Christmas enough for everyone here on MMC, regardless of their personal beliefs. I, for one, am grateful for the few stalwart regulars we have around here who dare to have a view contrary to the majority. More important to me than their beliefs is the amount of Christmas they bring to all of our discussions.

It is hard not to be personal or to take personal the things that are said surrounding one's beliefs. I think we can be tolerant of a few voiced frustrations and refrain from personal attacks.

For many, Christmas is under fire if simply because the world of our youth just doesn't exist any more. Sadly, maybe that world wasn't so perfect and our modern society is still correcting what never should have been in the first place. But even still, the political correctness of our times can be likewise discriminatory and over-the-top. The answer isn't in one extreme or the other -- just in respect for how others see things.

I have a daughter serving as a missionary right now and if there is one lesson she has learned it is from the cruelty and judgement passed upon her. Her core purpose is to serve others -- as pure an endeavor as one human being can be involved in. And yet the abuse heaped upon her for doing it is astounding.

I hope we are never guilty of that here.

I didn't start this thread to accuse all atheists of being "that way". But within all groups there are extremes and in my view this small group who both criticize and exploit Christmas seems to want it both ways.

For logical thinkers it doesn't seem very logical. If they really want to teach the ignorant (me) about the fallacy of God don't do it at a time when I am worshiping Him.

As for the rest of it -- proving God's existence, witchcraft, Christian history (which most Christians, sadly, don't know -- most couldn't even tell you where the Bible comes from), etc -- very little of this is actually related to Christmas and is likely best discussed elsewhere.

I will have to joyfully disagree with your last statement. I believe it is all related to Christmas, as "God's existence", "Christian history", and even Non-Christian/Pagan history, etc are, if not interwoven, at the very least linked to Christmas and may, in some way, be the basis of some of the attacks on Christmas, if not the "Culture War" as a whole.

Joyfully noted. What I meant was the bitter disagreements have nothing to do with Christmas. We're never going to change each other's minds. We should, instead, celebrate those things that bring us together rather than tear us apart.
