Christmas Controversy & Opinion Visit Defend Christmas.com Presented by Defend Christmas, this forum covers the difficult topics of the season -- from the famed and fabled War on Christmas to church and state debates to using the star or the angel on the Christmas tree. Modern Christmas celebration has it's complications -- schools are divided, some Christmas light displays are too much, some even argue that it is better to call it a "holiday" tree. Some merchants won't even say "Merry Christmas"! Where there is controversy, there is insanity. Even in Christmas.

Pensacola Too Broke for Christmas

It is a sad sign of the times — but one that has been predicted as a hallmark of the 2009 season. Pennsacola, Florida won’t be hanging their Christmas decorations this year. They are $85,000 short in the budget and that means the decorations stay packed in the boxes this year.

I read about that, that's incredibly sad. Its just proof that economy is affecting everyone. But maybe the lack of decorations will force people to see what Christmas is REALLY about. But I wish that some company or corporation will donate money to the city to put the lights up, for the kids you know? Adults can do with & without the Christmas lights/decorations. But to the kids that's what makes it special for them.

To bad.....maybe they could at least put a few up, or even just decorations and forget about plugging in the lights.
