Isn't it amazing how much paper you actually end up stuffing into a large garbage bag? Between the empty boxes and bags of wrapping, I'm always amazed at just how much we end up tossing.

The first trash collection day after Christmas proves that point, piles and piles of paper and cartons by the curb.

In our very rural area, trash pick up is just once a week, so depending on what day they come around, you can see tons of piles sitting outside various homes, just begging to be picked up. The 4-unit apartment I live in has a dumpster, so that helps, but then, we also have four sets of Christmas wrappings to deal with.

Do you have dumpster divers around there? I've seen them here the day after Christmas collecting boxes and bows.

We may very well, but I've only caught people putting trash in the dumpster, not taking it out.

sheepsnot is a new face around here!
You've never met my dad, then. He would make a trip to the Salvation Army drop box and come back with as much as he took. It was a swap box to him.

I feel guilty about taking stuff people have set out by the curb, I knock on the door first and ask them if they really want to throw that good junk out.

Maybe I should look around on Christmas Day and the few days following Christmas to see if I can find something worth diving for?
