candle Music suggestions for writing?

I'm a Christmas enthusiast taking part in National Novel Writing Month, and I'm looking for holiday or wintry music to set a mood while I write.

My story is a mystery that takes place at Christmas, so I'm looking for music to create an atmosphere that's moody, mysterious, wondrous. I have Windham Hill’s Winter Solstice albums (I-IV) and some Chip Davis. Beyond that, any thoughts?

My sincere thanks for your suggestions.

Best Wishes,
jimmyolsen

The Trans Siberian Orchestra album titled Christmas Eve and Other Stories has some pretty intense songs on it. There might be some good pieces on there to inspire a mystery.

Good luck with the writing!

Thanks, Christmas-A-Holic!

Here's a one-sentence story summary: A cynical photographer must solve the mystery behind a celebrated children's poem to stop a murder on Christmas Eve--his own--as forecast by the poem's author two hundred years earlier.

From that, I hope to draw 85,000 words.

I suggest a CD I know of background music, including unused scoring, from "It's a Wonderful Life." Some of the unused material is particularly dark and moody. The same CD includes instrumental suites drawn from the scores of the Alastair Sim "Scrooge" and the original "Miracle on 34th Street." It's a fine mix of "moody, mysterious, wondrous," and it's all instrumental, so it would help to set a mood without the distraction of lyrics. The CD is still available at Amazon:

LOL! Gotcha, JonD. Listening now. Alas, I'm tucked away in the attic when I write, free from distractions--and, unfortunately, 'Net radio!

Thanks for the awesome suggestion and the link!

Will do on the updates, MC.

They post word counters on the nano site. If you pop in, you'll find me there, registered under the same name. And I expect to share my ups and downs in the Writing Christmas group I created here at MMC.

Okay, gotta run. Need to finish my work in progress (I'm at 88k words) so I can send it to my Advance Readers, and kick off November 1 with the Christmas mystery while they're critiquing the past year's work.

Tick tock. *gulp*

Thanks again for your support!
