santahat Gift Cards

It seems like there are people who either like or dislike gift cards as presents. Maybe thinking that it is not personal enough, or such. But what do you think?

Do you like receiving, and giving gift cards as presents? What are some places that you would wish to receive a gift card from, and what places do you like to give gifts cards from?

I do like them,Especially to the bookstore.I can get lost for hours in there.Certain stores for the kids like Build-A-Bear,shoes etc.. stores where you know that its best for them to pick their gifts out.Plus for older kids like my 17 yr old twin Nephews,Gift Cards are the best thing.

I think they're wonderful especially for kids. My son got quite a few last year. (His were from the big blue store (WM) which was perfect for a 9 year old game freak!)

Of course gift cards don't have the eternal appeal of the annual gift of a robe or socks from Grandma. Oh the memories... lol

I think gift cards are good for people that you don't know personally as much and want to get something but don't know what. As a buyer, I'd much rather shop for something I know someone would want or need and give something so that I can see there face when they open it. Especially the neices and nephews and brothers. And I wouldn't ever get my wife a gift card. If I don't know something she wants then I don't need to be buying anything LOL . Sadly I have realized that this year some of the family is getting older and are probably going to have to recieve gift cards over presents.

I don't hate them but I try to give something more personal. I do give out gift cards to restaurants to my aunt who goes out to eat for lunch every day and a couple of my neighors. I have also given some walmart gift cards to some friends who were having a rough time. That way they could either get something they wanted or use it to buy grocerys.

I think gift certificates are perfect for the hard to buy for teenager. They can go out and choose exactly what they want.

If I am to receive a gift card, I'd prefer something like Half Price Books, Bath & Body Works or one of my fave restaurants. Let's face it, we don't always know some of the nieces and nephews along with their likes and dislikes. For that reason, gift cards are nice. They usually waste no time using them.

I love receiving gift cards as presents, but two things that has happened in the past are.

*I have received a gift card for a place that we do not have where I live
.

*I do like gift cards to places like Walmart, and such, but the gift card usually goes to buy groceries, and such instead of something special for me.

I don't dislike them but, I like to buy something personal. I don't feel like I'm giving anything if I just give a card. They are good for people who live out of state though because the shipping is easy! I don't mind getting them though as gifts. I don't care where they are to either but, a Visa card or Wal-Mart card is good because if I'm short on cash I can use that to buy food if I need to or gas! May not seem like much of a Christmas gift when you use it for something like that but, it helps on the checkbook if you can use it that way.
