How do you win those radio contests?
The ones where if you're the first caller or whatever...and you know how many songs just played during a segment...!!!!!
I had the right answer, but I just couldn't get my phone call in fast enough!!! Is there a trick to this???
It's a Christmas Keys and Kia game. If you know how many songs played during a certain period of time, you call in and if you're the right caller in order or something like that...you win a key. Then, you get to go to a Christmas party and TRY the key in the Kia ...and then...of course, if your key starts the KIA...you get to keep it. Could really use that kia....
Ahhh! Those frustrating radio contest! I don't know the trick. The last time I got myself into those contest was in the 80's before cell phones and just kept hitting redial over and over. I have won some stuff but nothing big.
When I was pregnant with my daughter my aunt and I were getting in on a week long contest on the radio to win baby furniture. I didn't have any yet and I was 7 months pregnant. They would randomly announce when to call in and the 10th caller got to make a guess on the price of the furniture. After the guess they would say if it was too high or too low or, of course, guessed it right. I actually got through and I was too low by 2 cents! I got a consolation prize of a roll of film! blah! An hour later and lady called in and got it right. They asked her if she needed the baby furniture. She said, "no, but I might find someone who does". Arggggghhh... I needed it!
Another contest I didn't get the grand prize but a gift certificate for a free pizza but I had to go to their station to pick it up!!! They would not mail it to me and it was only worth about 10 bucks. The station was a good 1 hour drive from me. I didn't even bother to get it.
The only thing decent I got was a contest on MTV to win tickets and backstage pass for a David Lee Roth concert. Which at the time I was a fan. I didn't get the grand prize but was one of the 100th callers that got a cassette tape of his new album.
I wish you luck and hope you get through and win!!!
I can't tell you how many times I've won radio contests since I was a pre-teen!
I can tell you that speed dial helps. In fact, I used to win alot back in the early eighties when speed dial wasn't a common feature on telephones! Program the station into a telephone memory slot. If you are ambidextrous, program the number into a cell phone memory slot and speed dial from both phones simultaneously.
If you have to be a certain caller, speed dial the number at that many times before giving up. As far as knowing how many and/or what songs are played in what order, etc, turn off the television and any other distractions in favor of the radio. Always know when the station announces a “money song” or “phrase” (usually during a morning show) and be sure to be tuned in at that time or have someone else listening for it.
By the mid eighties, I had pretty much quite listening to commercial radio though, so no tricks to share after that.
Personally, if I lived where you are, Faithmom, I would set the radio on 88.7 (http://www.krvs.org/), rip the knob off and dare anyone to even think about changing it!
