Christmas Controversy & Opinion Visit Defend Christmas.com Presented by Defend Christmas, this forum covers the difficult topics of the season -- from the famed and fabled War on Christmas to church and state debates to using the star or the angel on the Christmas tree. Modern Christmas celebration has it's complications -- schools are divided, some Christmas light displays are too much, some even argue that it is better to call it a "holiday" tree. Some merchants won't even say "Merry Christmas"! Where there is controversy, there is insanity. Even in Christmas.

Orange Country Courthouse Takes Down Christmas Tree

The removal of a Christmas tree from the Orange County Superior courthouse Monday has prompted a petition among court employees to have the tree – connected to a gift drive for poor children – put back. The six-foot artificial tree, which was adorned with tags seeking toy donations to ‘Operation Santa Claus,’ was removed Monday [...]

This is another case of "the member of the public should have been given directions to the nearest short pier for a long walk."

This is just plain stupid. I glad they at least are still finding a way to get some gifts for the needy kids.

The six-foot artificial tree, which was adorned with tags seeking toy donations to ‘Operation Santa Claus,’ was removed Monday after a member of the public complained about the tree being in the courthouse, court spokeswoman Gwen Vieau said.
“It’s a public building and we have to serve the diversity of our community,” she said.
Amazing the power of one complaint. I wish people would pay more attention to their words.
“It’s a public building and we have to serve the diversity of our community,”
Is Christmas and its celebration not a part of that diversity?

Someone in the Orange County Courthouse needs to brush up on constitutional law. Per the U.S. Supreme Court, no less, secular Christmas decorations like Christmas trees are permitted on public property.

I'd like to see if the people who made the tree be taken down ,were in the shoes of the people it benefits, if they would like having it taken down and their kids go with out thats how people associate the giving trees WITH A TREE not pieces of paper on a table thats a real shame I feel if you dont like the tree then dont look at it

It's a crazy world we live in and people only think about themselves. Things have really changed since I was a little girl... I now know what my Elders mean about the Good ole Days.... I sure hope a BIGGER Tree gets put back up !!!!!
