Sad Story: My towns Christmas Lights :(

My towns Christmas lights have been up for a few weeks and were switched on, on the 28th November, and already many of them have had to be removed for emergency repairs.

The wind got up last weekend and severely damaged a lot of them, some so much that they will need to be replaced. probably at the cost to the tax payer.

They looked so nice and it was the first time in about 5 years that the local council decided we needed new ones instead of just coloured bulbs up the main streets.

something like Ģ32,000 (around $52,572 USD in current currency rates)was spent on them, the switch on event and the contract to the company that puts them up and maintains them, then takes them down in January.

I think the company that made the lights should be responsible for replacements. they should have been made better and lasted longer than a few weeks... some towns in the area have used the same lights for years. but I suppose the people who will really need to cough up are the tax payers.

Is there an insurance rider in effect for special projects such as town Christmas lighting?

Hey guys, sorry it's been a long weekend so didn't have cance to check in and reply.

I have been seeking to a local councillor and apparently one fell down as the wind got up and pulled the heavy duty brackets out of the wall and bent them out of shape, so they decided they would take the rest down for safety reasons.

I presume they got the money back and used that to buy the ones that are up now (just a circle here and there with either a star, candle, snowflake etc).

They are having a meeting today to talk about getting some extra things to go up around the circle lights but I'm really not sure if they would be bought for this year or not, or next year.

I don't recall the wind being that strong, but I live in a valley about a mile and a half from the town so it could have been different there.

I will post more as I hear it.

That's so sad. Hope they can come up with some solution before Christmas.
