My Dog Sam
Dear Abby, I too was picked on when I was a child and I too turned to our dog Queenie. She always gave me love and she always listened. Bless you.
The relay arrived in my town today! They started out right in front of my home. It was exciting to get to watch. There where at least 30 vehicles in the line up parading down the street. Big party downtown, estimated that 10,000 people where in attendance.
You can go to my pictures to see more shots of the events as they took place.
This brings back memories of 2002 when the Olympics were in Salt Lake. What a magical two weeks that was!
The torch relay near my house was pretty lame though. It came right by, or was scheduled to, about 3 hours before the lighting of the torch. All the kids were let out of school to watch the historic passing of the official flame right in our neighborhood and everyone wanted to be part of it so we lined the streets in sub zero temps for four hours, even with the small children. The time the torch was supposed to come by came and went and someone with a portable TV said they were busy interviewing runners on television and that was holding up the torch. To catch up they put the torch in the back of a truck and sped through the route until it caught up to where it was supposed to be. So we saw it -- but they didn't jog it by it whizzed by at about 50 mph.
But other than that the Olympics was a transformative event for our community. Enjoy it while it lasts, the eyes of the world are upon you!
That's fascinating, Star. What a perfect place for you to be! Unfortunately, I will not be as lucky. I missed the torch as it went through Ottawa and now I will miss it as it goes through my hometown of Sault Ste. Marie. Bad timing, overall, on my part.
"The bells, the bows and the flashing lights, the mistletoes and the 'Silent Nights. It's all for show, but that's all right. That's not why I love this time of year..."
For one of the summer Olympics, we had a torch relay go through. It was awesome. If I remember right, Coke gave out coke products along the way. My kids were young but it was an awesome experience. The Winter Olympics are lots of fun to watch. We got the Wii Olympic games for Christmas and it's been getting lots of play and I'm sure it will for quite a while.
A Beary Merry Christmas to all!
now that is really, really awesome....I love the Olympics....more the Summer games tho....but the Winter Games rocks as well...specially cos the German team is always good in em....what a great expierence
this is one of the route markers for the torch relay. This one was the first number in town and it went up to #90 for the last bearer.
These where stuck to poles along the route to let each torch bearer know where their route ended and the next bearers began.
We went along the route and collected several, the kids each getting the one that matched their birthday. I have the first and last numbers from the route here in Stratford.
