Christmas "Savings" box.

Usually I do this in July, but I figured, ah the heck with it..a month ahead of schedule will only make things easier.

I take a small shoe box, wrap it in some cool paper I have from last year and cut a slit in the top.

Every few days, when I come home and empty my pockets--I put a few bucks in the box and really don't go crazy keeping track of it.

I'll kick it off with a big bill, either 100 or 50 and then from there...sometimes it's 3.00, sometimes it's 10.00..sometimes it's 1.00 or 20.00. I just make sure that every couple of days I dump something in.

I allow myself to open the box come about mid October and the money is for use on stuff for myself--early on in the season. New ornaments, something for my train set etc etc.

When I was a kid I'd go with my mom and if I wanted something and it was too early I used to hear "We still have time..we'll get it later, it's an expensive time of the year, let's save a bit more"--which makes sense, but now--I end up with a few extra bucks that is PURPOSELY for that reason!

Making the box and keeping it on a shelf lets me sneak a bit of Christmas in early so that's fun in itself and last year, I ended up with just over $600.00 bux just by contributing a small ammount almost every day!!

Now I know there is "Christmas Club" at the bank and everything, but this way I get to wrap a present in the summer time

Do you do anything like this??

I don't participate in our bank's Christmas program, but I do a Christmas savings program of my own. I pay a set amount into a Christmas account every month. It is one of my monthly bills. I also happen to be a year round shopper so it's nice to have money set aside for that year round.

I do the same, Christmas24/7....I take a certain amount each week and put back. We put back enough each week and have transfer it from our checking to our savings. By the time we get to Christmas, we have enough to pay for all of our gifts, all of our food for Thanks and Christmas, some money for decorations, and enough for us to go out to eat a real nice meal or go out on New Years Eve. This has really worked well for us the past couple of years.

I don't happen to have any Christmas savings plan, but after reading all of your comments, I may very well start one up here today. Thanks for the reminder and ideas all...

I have often thought of doing something like that, but I never do it. That is a great idea though ChristmasKid77.
