2010 National Radio Hall of Fame Inductees

Among the 2010 inductees into the National Radio Hall of Fame are at least two with a Christmas connection.

A program entitled “Music & The Spoken Word” began broadcasting on July 15, 1929. To date, this weekly show is carried on over 2,0000 radio and TV stations and cable networks. The show which features music from none other than the Mormon Tabernacle Choir will enter the Radio HoF as the longest continuous running radio show in America!

The late Sam Phillips of Sun Records, the man who first recorded Elvis Presley, will also be headed into the Radio Hall of Fame.

What would Christmas be without The Mormon Tabernacle Choir & Elvis!

Feel free to find a Christmas connection to other inductees and post them here! They are Ralph Emery, Terri Hemmert (a disc jocky), Carl Kasell (of NPR fame), and Cathy Hughes (an Urban radio pioneer).

I suppose some will remember some Christmas moments from Ralph Emery’s various radio and TV shows from over the years. (Be sure to share any audio or video clip links found online here!)

Ralph's Christmas Connection - 1

Ralph Emery (on his TNN TV show, ‘Nashville Now’ I think) introduces Bill Monroe and band who performs “Christmas Time’s A’Coming.” Ralph talks about Country Christmas records (ot the lack thereof) from his radio dee jay days.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXfBYXElPII

Ralph Emery and his TNN show sidekick cranked out a Christmas CD in 1989, “Christmas with Ralph & Red” as well as a TV show available on DVD, “Shotgun Red's Christmas Surprise.”

Beleive it or not, I don't have the CD. I wish I did because as an out of print work, the CD is commanding rather high prices!

I've actually found "Christmas with Ralph & Red" on Amazon for less that fifteen bucks US. So, yes, you would be right, Mo.
