My Dog Sam
Dear Abby, I too was picked on when I was a child and I too turned to our dog Queenie. She always gave me love and she always listened. Bless you.
I have 2 that stick in my mind- both involve my Dad's Christmas tipple!
1)My Dad had always wanted a"real" tree but Mum said we couldn't afford one & she was the one who had to clean upso we always had an artificial one.
I was about 8yrs old & I was woken up a couple of nights before the Big Eve by some banging & the odd curse word. I got out of bed to see what was going on when I saw My Mum in the Hallway & my Dad sweating trying to saw off the bottom of the biggest tree I had seen. It seems as my Father was making his way home from his works' Christmas party, he came across a school that had thrown it's tree out to the rubbish & seeing his hearts desire at no cost to the family, he carried the tree on his back about half a mile not realising that the tree was about 10ft high & our livingroom only had about 8ft ceiling height!
2) My Baby sister had an operation on her hands & my Mum asked me to get her the roll of cotton wool to bathe her with. I was about 8 & my Brother about 6 & as my Grandmother was staying over for Christmas Eve my Bro & I had to share a room. We where woken by a voice saying "HOHOHO". As we bolted out of our beds we went onto the landing where we saw "the big guy" (so we thought) & we chased him into our parents room where he disappeared. As we made our way back to bed "Santa" jumped out from behind the door & shouted "BOO". We where soooo scared we ran back into bed & didn't move for the rest of the night. Down the years it turns out "Santa" was My Dad wearing my Mum's red cocktail dress & a cotton wool beard!
Every Christmas we had to go to church before we could open any gifts. When we left there where not many gifts under the tree, but that was ok with us, we were excited about getting to them!
We got home and as we went upstairs to change out of our Sunday clothes we stopped in amazement. There was the biggest pile of gifts we had ever seen under the tree! All we could do was stand there and stare, my brother stating the obvious "they grew!"

Over my Step Grandma's my Step Uncle came running down the stairs in some very small santa undies jingling bells ... that was the funniest thing that sticks in my mind! By the way this house was full of about 50 people and this was on Christmas Eve about 12 years ago!
There's no place like Home for the Holidays!

I have a memory that is kind of funny and touching at the same time.
Every year from the time I was little until after I was married my dad would put out a garden each year. He loved doing this and he was really good at it. Each year he always got a few hot pepper plants and those peppers were the most delicious I ever had.
One year after I was "grown up" I stopped by my parents' house to see them and proceeded to go to my dad's garden to get some hot peppers. Being selfish as I am, I TOOK ALL HIS HOT PEPPERS !!!
Of course, he was upset and yelled at me and of course, I cried.
That Christmas, as we were unwrapping our gifts, I got one that was rather odd shaped. It felt like glass. The tag on it said "To My Little Pepper Girl" Inside was a jar of Vlasic Hot pepper rings that my dad had bought for me as kind of a joke because of what had happened in the Summer. I laughed about it, everyone did but it was touching too. My dad very seldom "winged it" like that with a Christmas present !!
